This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.
As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will design, build, and optimize electrical harnessing for spacecraft solar arrays and support the manufacturing transition of next-generation photovoltaic power systems. Blue Origin is seeking a highly motivated Harnessing Engineer to join our Solar Center of Excellence in this critical role. This position requires CAD expertise, innovative thinking, and the ability to move from a prototype to a high-rate manufactured system. Special Mentions:
- Travel expected up to 20% of the time

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- End-to-End design of harnessing assemblies for electrical power and data transmission. Lead requirements development, wire/shielding selection, connector design/selection, and interface to other electrical subsystems.
- Create 3D routed harness data files using Creo Cabling and Zuken E3.schematic or Creo Schematic/Routed System Designer (RSD)
- Create harness detail and installation drawings, including 2D flat harness drawings from the 3D harness data sets
- Create proof of concept and prototype parts, supporting process maturation, and transition from initial flight deliveries through production
- Down-select suppliers and manage harness deliveries to be on time and within budget.
- Develop and execute system-level test plans (ATP/QTP) and qualification strategies, coordinating across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and structural disciplines to ensure integrated system performance meets mission requirements
- Develop harnesses and test fixtures to support ground support equipment and test stands.
- Work as part of a fast-moving, hands-on development team, owning products from end to end.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline
- 5+ years of professional experience in aerospace systems engineering, product development, or related technical roles
- Demonstrated experience with electrical harness design including mass optimization, EMI/RF shielding design, data integrity, wire derating, requirements management, and interface control.
- Proven ability to work in cross-functional team environments coordinating with design, analysis, manufacturing, test, and program management organizations
- Aerospace industry experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, or other aerospace systems development programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience with spacecraft solar array systems, photovoltaic technologies, deployment mechanisms, or spacecraft power subsystems
- Experience connector design/selection and PCBA design, flexible assembly modelling, and complex part classes.
- Experience with both round and flat wire harness design.
- Familiarity with flex cable design and mechanical behavior impacts.
- Proven experience with other software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical and Mechanical Routing, Creo Schematic/Routed System Designer (RSD), Zuken E3.schematic, or Mentor Graphics
- Familiarity with space environmental effects on solar arrays including radiation degradation, thermal cycling, and MMOD impacts.
- Experience supporting manufacturing process development, design-for-manufacturing initiatives, or transition from development to production environments
- Working knowledge of spacecraft qualification standards (SMC-S-016, AIAA, NASA) and acceptance testing protocols for flight hardware.
- Familiar with existing applicable harness standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4
Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70
