Job Overview

The Strategic Planning Associate partners with Senior, Strategic Planning to execute assigned strategic planning projects that support internal corporate business groups in assessing and implementing strategic growth plans.

What You Will Do



  • Develop Feasibility Order of Magnitude plans and Conceptual Adjacency plans that meet project capital criteria. Prepare for project-related meetings and document outcomes, including action items and follow-up.
  • Develop presentation-quality plans in accordance with Macy's standards for review and distribution to Senior Management.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners-including Real Estate, Area Research, Capital Planning, Senior Management, RDOS, Divisions, and Operations-to gather required inputs and develop plans and programs.
  • Collaborate with and support external partners, including real estate developers and project architects, under the guidance of Senior, Strategic Planning.
  • Analyze and interpret sales performance, trade area data, and future market trends, incorporating insights into assigned projects.
  • Implement scope documentation and support order-of-magnitude cost analysis to inform project planning and decision-making.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.


Skills You Will Need

Strategic & Analytical Thinking: Ability to support strategic growth planning by analyzing feasibility, adjacencies, capital requirements, and market dynamics.

Financial & Feasibility Analysis: Experience developing order-of-magnitude cost estimates and feasibility plans to inform capital investment decisions.

Data Analysis & Market Insight: Ability to analyze sales performance, trade area data, and market trends and translate insights into actionable planning recommendations.

Presentation & Storytelling Skills: Strong ability to develop presentation-quality materials that clearly communicate complex information to Senior Management and business partners.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to partner effectively with diverse internal stakeholders, including Real Estate, Capital Planning, Operations, and senior leaders.

External Partner Coordination: Ability to collaborate with external partners such as developers and architects under guidance, supporting planning and design activities.

Communication Skills: Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, with comfort presenting information in one-on-one and small group settings across levels.

Project Planning & Execution: Ability to plan work, manage workflows, and execute assigned projects while tracking action items and follow-ups.

Prioritization & Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities, adjust workflows as needed, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Attention to Detail & Documentation: Strong attention to detail with the ability to document scope, decisions, and next steps accurately.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 4 or more years of architectural or planning experience, with preferably 2 of these in a retail environment.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
