Job Summary

This Physician Assistant (PA) position is assigned to the Department of Head and Neck Medical Oncology. In collaboration with the supervising physician and administrative supervisor, the PA provides comprehensive care to patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancers. Responsibilities include delivering clinical guidance to patients receiving systemic therapy for head and neck malignancies, managing treatment-related toxicities and oncologic emergencies, providing symptom management, coordinating care, assisting with triage, and performing other related duties as assigned.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $85.03 - $114.44 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description


The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This designation recognizes the Center's scientific leadership, robust resources, and the depth and breadth of its research across basic, clinical, and population sciences, as well as its strong transdisciplinary research that bridges these areas.

Clinical services span adult and pediatric oncology across three campuses and multiple regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest at UCSF Medical Center, encompassing approximately 230 non-physician FTEs, more than 100 cost centers, and numerous grant and philanthropic funding sources.

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is a national leader in cancer clinical care and research and is consistently ranked among the top 10 cancer programs by U.S. News & World Report.

Required Qualifications


  • Graduation from a PA Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA (ARC-PA).
  • Two (2) to Three (3) years of experience as a Physician Assistant in a medical oncology setting, or completion of a one-year comprehensive oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) fellowship program.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience caring for patients with head and neck cancers
  • Experience working in an academic medical center

License/Certification


  • California Physician Assistant (PA) License without restriction
  • National Board Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • California Driver License (if required for position)
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Additional required AHA certifications:
  • Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None
