Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is currently seeking an Operations and Campaign Analysis Intern to join our team in Alexandria, VA for the summer of 2026.
Description:
The intern will be introduced to MTSI Modeling and Simulation (M&S) best practices and tools and receive formal and informal training in several Operations and Campaign Analysis simulation environments, including AFSIM, EADSim, Scaar, and TAMS. The intern will work with their supervisor, project lead, and associated team in conducting model development, performing analysis, and building data processing and visualization tools in support of critical contracts and the wider MTSI M&S community. The period of this internship will be approximately June - August of 2026. The chosen applicant will be expected to apply for a U.S. government security clearance, as applicable, upon acceptance of an offer.
Responsibilities:
* Build familiarity with key M&S environments and frameworks.
* Support the continued development of the M&S environments in ways that directly impact MTSI's ability to execute current and future contracts.
* Develop physics-based models to represent system performance and behaviors.
* Assist in performing verification and validation of simulation inputs, outputs, and results.
Required Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in a bachelor's program with 2 years completed, or master's program at an accredited university, pursuing a degree in engineering, mathematics, operations research, computer science, or similar field.
* 0+ years of experience with mission-level or campaign-level modeling and simulation and Operations Analysis principles.
* Strong performance in courses relevant to applied mathematics, physics modeling, critical thinking, data analysis, and/or statistics.
* Strong communication and ability to work in a team.
* Self-motivated and able to work independently with help from experienced team members.
* Willingness to learn and adapt in a multidisciplinary environment.
* U.S. Citizenship required.
* Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Secret clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
* Knowledge of modeling and simulation methodologies and tools (e.g. AFSIM, Suppressor, EADSIM).
* Ability to execute a study plan, considering both high-level goals and low-level details of the analysis.
* Experience in programming with Python, MATLAB, C, C++, Java.
* Experience with object-oriented programming and principles.
* Familiarity with Monte Carlo simulations and related statistical methods.
* Some experience with Unity game engine and C# coding language.
* Knowledge of code versioning tools (e.g. Git, Mercurial, etc.).
* Secret clearance or higher.
Clearance: Ability to obtain/maintain a US government security clearance.
