Summary:

The Data Analyst III provides advanced analytical and programming support for vaccine safety and surveillance activities, including analysis of Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) data. This role performs moderate to high-complexity statistical programming and data analyses using SAS and other tools, collaborates closely with medical officers and epidemiologists, and supports the development of studies, manuscripts, reports, and routine surveillance outputs.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Program and perform analyses on the VAERS data using SAS Institute analytic software. Most of this work will involve moderate to high level programming skills and conducting descriptive statistics such as frequencies and cross tabs.
  • Work closely with medical officers and epidemiologists on VAERS analyses for studies, manuscripts, and reports. In this capacity, the analyst will be responsible for understanding the scientific needs of the project, conducting appropriate analyses, and interpreting outputs for the medical officers and epidemiologists. This work may involve generating tables or line lists of reports. Approximate volume of tables/line list per researcher 15.
  • Program to create tables for vaccine surveillance projects that will be automated, distributed, and verified on a weekly/monthly basis to ISO staff. This will include but not limited to approximately 40 tables/line lists.
  • Perform data quality assurance activities, including development of data quality reports and investigation and resolution of data anomalies or errors.
  • Build and manage Access and Excel databases, with proper documentation including data dictionaries and appropriate data management activities.
  • Program, manage, and perform analyses for other non-VAERS ad hoc studies/projects. This would include assisting staff with data entry, data management, and quality checks throughout an ISO study.
  • Participate in meetings relating to VAERS and other vaccine safety activities at least four times a month.
  • Provide weekly update on activities to technical monitor.
  • May travel, once per year, to assist with VAERS site visit.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of descriptive statistics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Access and Excel for database management and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with scientific and technical staff.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple analytical deliverables on recurring schedules.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience performing data analysis and statistical programming.
  • Experience supporting studies, reports, or research efforts in collaboration with medical, epidemiological, or scientific staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.

Pay and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000.
