| Essential Job Duties |
The Applied Research Specialist will conduct independent and collaborative research focused on swine health, nutrition, and physiology. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and implementing pig-based research studies; overseeing animal trials; collecting, managing, and organizing research data; performing statistical analyses and interpreting results; and contributing to the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and technical reports. The position will also involve laboratory-based activities such as biological sample processing and assay execution, as well as collaboration with faculty, graduate students, technical staff, and external partners. The individual will ensure compliance with institutional animal care, biosafety, and research protocols and may provide limited technical guidance or mentorship to students and staff involved in research activities.
This is an hourly, temporary position intended for a recent PhD graduate seeking advanced research training. The position is expected to support grant-funded research activities and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Continuation of the appointment is contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance.
Work Schedule: This position is flexible and is expected to work up to 40 hours per week. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday during standard business hours. However, flexibility is required, and work hours may vary based on animal trial schedules, sample collection, and experimental needs. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. |

- Proficiency with statistical software such as SAS, R, JMP, or similar
- Experience contributing to grant-related activities or collaborative research projects
