Position Overview

dormakaba is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer Intern based in Indianapolis, IN. This role will report directly to the AVP Manufacturing Systems Design. The Systems Engineer Intern is responsible for supporting project management activities for manufacturing system implementations, including new product development initiatives, plant transfer projects, and strategic capital investments across dormakaba's Americas operations.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: Base Salary $ 21.00-$ 25.00 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) Please visit our career site for more information on benefits.

What you will do
  • Assist in coordinating and tracking project timelines, deliverables, and milestones for new product development launches, plant transfers, and capital equipment installations
  • Support the development and documentation of manufacturing system layouts, process flows, and equipment specifications for production facility upgrades
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain to gather requirements and ensure smooth project implementation
  • Conduct data analysis on production metrics, capacity studies, and system performance to identify opportunities for optimization and support decision-making
  • Create and maintain project documentation including status reports, change orders, technical drawings, and standard operating procedures
What we require
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field
  • Understanding of manufacturing and assembly operations systems, including system design, implementation, and delivery processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) with strong analytical skills for product costing, cost analysis, and data validation on new product launches
  • Detail-oriented with ability to ensure data accuracy and completeness, particularly in areas such as product configuration management and variant specifications

What we prefer

  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for creating facility layouts, equipment drawings, and manufacturing system designs
  • Experience with project management tools (Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar) and understanding of project management methodologies
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems used in manufacturing environments
  • Previous internship, co-op, or work experience in manufacturing, operations, or engineering project support roles
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences and work effectively across multiple plant location
