Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Learning and Development at UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, based in our Evanston, Illinois, office.

The Manager, Learning & Development (L&D) is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high impact learning solutions that strengthen organizational capability and support a culture of continuous learning. This role partners closely with leaders, subject matter experts, and external vendors to create training programs that enhance professional and leadership skills across the organization. The Manager oversees end to end learning initiatives-including needs assessment, program design, facilitation, coaching, and evaluation-and plays a key role in team building strategies, talent development, and succession planning. This position ensures that employees have the resources and support to grow their careers while advancing the organization's mission. This role reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and is part of the HR leadership team.

What you'll learn and achieve:

As the Manager, Learning and Development, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

  • Conduct needs assessments to identify organizational learning priorities, skills gaps, and development opportunities.

  • Design and develop training programs, curricula, and learning pathways aligned with organizational goals.

  • Collaborate with external vendors, training partners, and consultants to source, customize, and deliver highquality learning solutions.

  • Lead the rollout of in-person or blended learning programs, e-learning modules, microlearning, and other innovative approaches and tools.

  • Facilitate training programs, leadership development sessions, and teambuilding programs for leaders and employees.

  • Collaborate with HR business partners and other leaders to develop, manage, and/or support talent development and succession planning processes.

  • Deliver coaching to individuals and teams to enhance performance, engagement, and collaboration.

  • Measure program effectiveness and continuously refine learning programs to ensure relevance, accessibility, and impact.

  • Contribute to other HR and organization-wide initiatives as required.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:

  • Bachelor's degree is required preferably in business, organizational development, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • Six or more years of progressive experience in learning and organizational development.

  • Experience working with scientific research, academic or research institutions, and experience working with public policy, nonprofit, and/or mission driven organizations are desired.

  • Proficiency in MS Office is required. Experience with Workday LMS is a plus.
