Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee evening operations at the Cudahy Library circulation desk (Sunday-Thursday), including circulation, research and learning inquiries, facilities-related issues, and other service needs.
  • Supervise circulation and stacks student workers during evening hours and participate in student worker hiring, training, and evaluation.
  • Work extensively with Alma's circulation-related functions and Primo.
  • Maintain Cudahy Library safety and security, conduct building rounds and people counts, and oversee evening building closure; communicate needs with other Access Services staff, Information Commons staff, Campus Safety and Facilities as appropriate.
  • Assist the Access Services & Operations Mange with re-shelving, shifting, shelf-reading and other routine collection maintenance projects at Cudahy Library.
  • Participate in committee work, professional development, and outreach initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • 6-10 student workers (direct); 15-20 student workers (indirect)
Exceptions:
This position requires shift adjustments based on the academic schedule and open building hours. Normal shift hours will be from Sunday - Thursday, 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two to three years of experience required.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, including ability to manage time, prioritize work, solve problems, and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment
  • Experience in and dedication to customer service
  • Ability to resolve complex bibliographic problems
  • Ability to occasionally do fairly strenuous physical work
  • Prior experience in a library or similar setting preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred


Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proficiency with Internet and e-mail applications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Teams preferred
  • Previous experience with library automation systems; experience with Ex Libris' Alma unified resource management system is preferred
  • Previous experience with library automation systems; experience with Ex Libris' Alma unified resource management system preferred
  • Previous experience with online library resources, including but not limited to electronic databases, catalogs, and discovery tools; experience with Ex Libris' Primo discovery service preferred
