Job Purpose The Field Service Technician is responsible for supporting the deployment, commissioning, and ongoing service of Hyliion's KARNO Power Module through hands-on assembly training and field-based service execution. This role ensures reliable system performance by performing installations, startups, troubleshooting, maintenance, and customer support across diverse operating environments. By serving as a technical liaison between the factory, engineering teams, and customers, the technician helps deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality distributed power solutions. Duties and Responsibilities
- Training & Assembly Phase (First 4-6 Months)
- Assemble mechanical and electromechanical subsystems of the KARNO Power Module
- Develop a working knowledge of system architecture, operating principles, controls, and safety requirements
- Support factory testing, inspections, and quality verification activities
- Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to understand design intent and system requirements
- Follow detailed build documentation, work instructions, and inspection checklists
- Assist with fault diagnosis, repair, and reinstallation activities as needed
- Field Service & Deployment Phase
- Travel to customer and partner sites to support mechanical and electrical installation activities
- Perform KARNO Power Module system commissioning, startup, and acceptance testing
- Conduct preventive, corrective, and troubleshooting maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues using test equipment, remote diagnosis support, and software tools
- Document service activities, inspection findings, and corrective actions accurately and timely
- Prepare detailed service reports outlining work performed, diagnostic results, and customer feedback; coordinate closely with service engineering and factory quality teams
- Interface professionally with customers, contractors, and internal engineering teams
- Participate in on-call or rotating support schedules to support deployed systems, as required
- Maintain service tools, service vehicles, and spare parts inventory to ensure timely and effective issue resolution

- Education, Experience and Certifications
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in field service, mechanical assembly, maintenance, or repair of industrial equipment
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training, vocational education, military experience, or equivalent hands-on background preferred
- Experience using and maintaining hand tools, torque tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Experience supporting power generation equipment, generators, engines, or energy systems preferred
- Field commissioning or startup experience for industrial or energy equipment preferred
- Skills and Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a working knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and sensors
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues in field environments
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and service documentation
- Ability to document work performed clearly and accurately using digital tools
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance practices
- Comfortable working independently in the field with remote engineering support
Role Classification and Working Conditions This is an hourly, non-exempt-level position. This position typically works in a production/assembly/engineering lab environment. Overtime may be required. Physical/Other Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform hands-on mechanical work
- Ability to lift and maneuver components weighing up to approximately 50 lbs
- Ability to work safely in industrial, outdoor, and construction-adjacent environments
- Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to all safety protocols
- Willingness to travel extensively (50-75%), including overnight and multi-day site visits
- Valid driver's license with the ability to safely operate company vehicles
