CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager in our Houston, Texas Office.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of fleet management experience within construction, civil engineering, or related heavy industrial fields.
- Proven ability to manage large, mixed fleets (heavy equipment and commercial vehicles)
- Ability to recommend and establish best practices and processes to increase efficiency of the fleet program.
- Strong knowledge of equipment lifecycle management, preventive maintenance programs, and repair scheduling.
- Experience with FMCSA/DOT and OSHA compliance and best practices for safety and regulatory standards.
- Experience with implementing and managing vehicle maintenance programs such as WHEELS, as well as telematics system Motive, or similar, preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee service agreements.
- Strong skills in budgeting, cost control, and procurement for equipment, parts, and services.
- Ability to lead, support field operations, and collaborate with project managers and site supervisors.
- Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to self-start and see projects to completion.
RESPONSIBILITIES This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities and are subject to change, including additional duties as assigned. 1.Provide reports to management on budgeting, schedules, maintenance, and fleet progress 2.Assist with recommending and purchasing vehicles to expand and/or enhance the fleet, as well as identifying vehicles that should be considered for removal or auction. 3.Maintain relationships with external vendors and service providers, including vehicle auctions. 4.Maintain knowledge of vehicle warranties and recalls 5.Assist in overseeing the driver schedule in coordination with the Human Resources and Safety 6.Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including the Department of Transportation/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) 7.Monitor and ensure compliance with DOT logs 8.Assist with fleet insurance claims 9.Track and coordinate vehicle damage and urgent or emergency repairs to minimize downtime and optimize productivity, which may include individualized assistance. 10.Oversee regular maintenance is tracked, scheduled, and adhered to on all vehicles 11.Generate regular reports on fleet utilization, downtime, and maintenance trends 12. Assist in overseeing vehicle and trailer licensure and registration in coordination with the designated staff 13.Oversee fleet operations, including fleet walks, preventative maintenance, service records, work orders, warranty documentation, and vehicle outfitting to meet safety and service requirements. 14.Monitor driver compliance through telematics, support HR and Safety with prohibited/probationary driver oversight, maintain inspection records, and promote a safe driving culture through meetings and communication. 15.Serve as a liaison between the company, public inquiries, and service vendors; coordinate logistics such as vehicle transfers, regional contacts, key management, and material stocking for vehicles and warehouse inventory. 16.Ensure accurate vehicle usage in VantagePoint, support budgeting and forecasting for maintenance and lifecycle planning, and develop methods to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency. 17.Communicate vehicle policies and updates, support onboarding for new drivers with telematics tools, and travel between offices/warehouses as needed. PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS + ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Most work is performed in a professional office environment. Some trips to client offices and outdoor environments for observations will be required.
- Seated and Standing Position. Extended periods of sitting and standing in an upright position at a workstation.
- Mobility. Movement within the office and job sites, including navigating between floors, workstations, and outdoor environments with potential for uneven surfaces.
- Neck Movement. Forward flexion, extension, or lateral rotation of the head and neck while using multiple computer screens.
- Repetitive Motion. Repetitive finger movements for operating a computer mouse and typing on a keyboard.
- Arm Movement. Extending hands and arms in various directions, such as overhead, below the waist, forward, or laterally.
- Object Handling. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another and transporting objects by holding them in the hands, arms, or over the shoulder.
- Cognitive Requirements. Selective attention, oral comprehension, oral expression, speech recognition, speech clarity, written comprehension, written expression, problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, number facility, information ordering, category flexibility, flexibility of closure, fluency of ideas, and originality.
- Office Conditions. Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones. Additionally, tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices.
- Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures). Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens, including poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, and cedar. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals, insects, and plants.
- Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, along with use of hand and power tools.
- Driving and Vehicle Use. May involve driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers, potentially operating watercraft, and for extended periods of time.
EXPECTED WORK HOURS
- This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, however, hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime.
- CobbFendley's standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST. Generally, employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note, operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff.
WORK LOCATION FLEXIBILTY
- This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule once the training period is complete as established by the department.
