Factory Focus Manager

SP Industries Inc. is hiring a Factory Focus Leader to oversee a complete value stream and guide continuous improvement initiatives that fuel our operational growth at our Gardiner, NY facility.



Join a growing, dynamic manufacturing team and manage the Value stream to include personnel, machinery and materials to ensure production schedules are met. Utilizing the customer backlog reports and factory schedule, ensure that target dates for instrument build and shipping of all SP Scientific units built at the Gardiner facility are met. The scope of this role is to encompass the entire Value stream from the point of order receipt through manufacturing, test and shipment, working closely with planning, materials and customer service teams.



The Focus Factory Leader will lead the team to achieve the safety, quality, delivery and cost goals to support customer expectations and the business operating plan.



KEY TASKS:
Tactical Performance



  • Manage their assigned focus factory through the use of the Visual Management System, SQDC KPIs, in that priority, ensuring performance is driven with urgency by challenging the status quo.
  • Responsible for implementing staffing plans and coordination with planning, scheduling and purchasing to ensure all customer requirements are achieved in a cost effective and productive manner.
  • Ensure the focus factory team take responsibility for raising appropriate WOs.
  • Ensure cross-product training programs align with the skillset of the team to ensure that all employees are trained to achieve both customer and company goals.
  • Utilise problem solving to drive long term continuous improvements (kaizen).



Strategic Improvement



  • Drive continuous improvement (kaizen) through the use of Lean tools.
  • Review manufacturing methods and develop process/system strategies to meet company objectives for quality, cost, responsiveness and growth.
  • Recommend and implement processes that will enhance the factory's capabilities to provide an excellent customer experience while at the same time improving productivity.

Team Management

  • Ensure all employees are treated with integrity, providing an environment for individual development to the mutual benefit of the customers, business and individual.
  • Promote employee engagement and talent development by providing regular performance feedback in 1-1s, mentoring, developing and motivating and through performance appraisals.
  • Develop an internal talent pool; helping resolve personnel issue, including disciplinary requirements, in order to achieve targeted performance; creating mid-term and long-term development plans for direct reports; and building transparent, cooperative, trustworthy working environments for the employees.
  • Other tasks as required to enable the operations team to achieve as this is a higher level role.



ESSENTIAL SKILLS:



  • Has the ability to energize and motivate people and to effectively communicate to all within the operations organization.
  • Always portrays a positive, can do attitude in both favorable and adverse situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with a high level of integrity and accountability, and ability to drive change in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proven track record of creating, implementing and/or sustaining a lean operation with effective problem solving skills to root cause.
  • Good IT skills especially MS Office applications.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and improving key performance indicator metrics through strong data analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Production and Capacity Planning.
  • Excellent human relations communications, oral and written.
  • Not shy in taking the lead and "getting your hands dirty".



QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:



  • An associates degree / equivalent or above in an engineering or manufacturing based discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing management / supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of Operations Management and modern LEAN manufacturing methods.
  • Experience of ERP systems, understand the positive and negative aspects of their use.
  • ISO 9001 experience


The expectation of this role is that you are prepared to do what it takes to get the tasks completed to ensure that customer requirements are fulfilled and that the business needs are met. You must be flexible, including leading/mentoring other production departments as necessary.
In the course of your duties you will be required to wear safety shoes on the shop floor, and follow all Health & Safety, PPP and ESD procedures in force as per company rules.

  • Manager responsibilities for Health, Safety and Environment include:
  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environment compliance
  • Hold team members accountable for health, safety and environmental compliance as part of the annual performance review process
  • Ensure that the requirements of the health, safety and environment management system are implemented and maintained
  • Carry out hazard assessments, inspections, and audits as required by legislative framework and/or corporate requirements
  • Ensure that training is provided to all departmental employees are per established training matrix
  • Implement appropriate corrective measures for unsafe conditions and unsafe acts
  • Ensure that appropriate equipment, materials and protective devices are provided and maintained in safe condition
  • Provide information, instruction and supervision to employees
  • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employees



Salary Range: $95/K - $130/K
