Job Family Description

Radiological Protection personnel ensure safety by monitoring, evaluating, and controlling radiation hazards in various environments. They use specialized equipment to detect and measure radiation levels, implement safety protocols to minimize exposure risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, they may provide training to personnel on radiation safety procedures and contribute to emergency response plans related to radiological incidents.

Discipline Description

Health Physics personnel provide technical guidance on complex radiological protection issues having project, site-wide, or DOE complex-wide implications. They integrate emerging technologies, processes, and regulatory requirements into radiological programmatic areas. They serve as the radiological technical authority responsible for developing the radiological technical basis for facilities and projects, developing the technical basis for instrumentation and dosimetry programs while ensuing regulatory compliance. In health physics roles, individuals focus on the application of physics principles and radiation safety practices to protect human health and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Purpose of this management position may include any, but not necessarily all, of the disciplines in regulatory and
environmental compliance, program management, project execution and management, sample data management,
environmental monitoring and reporting, safety and health, radiological protection, and health physics.
Safety is a primary responsibility in each job performed. Obtain safety training, obey safety rules. and make safety an integral part of each
task. Take the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition.
Execute the duties of the Manager, Health Physics Services within the Radiological Protection Department (RPD) of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC (SRNS). This position includes program management of the internal and external dosimetry programs, instrument calibration, health physics and radiological engineering programs.
Support the RPD Director with regulatory compliance of dosimetry services, instrumentation, and technical support of RPD programs.
Manage planning functions including budget bases of estimate, tracking and change control, critical staffing, succession planning, employee development, personnel resource distribution, and HR program and policy implementation.
Provide leadership that promotes SRNS Core Values and integrates safety and health throughout ESSH.
Manage technical and programmatic radiological protection issues including Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene.
Interface with DOE-SR on dosimetry, instrumentation, and general health physics support as required.
Maintain compliance with DOE directives/Orders and other state and federal laws, regulations and requirements
Conduct oversight of dosimetry, instrumentation, and health physics programs through audits, independent safety.
- Provide leadership and direction to accomplish program objectives
- Manage site level programs related to assigned responsibility
- Define the strategy and objectives to be met based on guidance from the VP /Director
- Plan and manage program/project short term/long term strategic goals, budgets and activities. Planning includes
recognition of customer needs and requirements.
- Maintain compliance with DOE directives/Orders and other state and federal laws, regulations and requirements
- Interface with DOE internal customer and DOE-HQ, Senior Site Management, and Stakeholders (including regulators,
public and others); interface with other SRS Prime contractors.
- Anticipate, evaluate and execute potential scope/program changes
- Develop/hire staffing and work execution strategies that demonstrate/realize cost-effective and timely approaches to
accomplishing work. Focus on Human Capital management
- Manage, lead and direct diverse teams of individuals
- Lead and direct Continuous Improvement Initiatives - strong business acumen
- Provide strong leadership and effective communications
- Assess performance of the organization and implement required improvements
- Demonstrate commitment to environmental awareness, and protection of Human Health and the Environment
- Act as SRS representative for responsible elements to the DOE, regulatory agencies, auditors, internal/external
evaluators and inspectors, DOE and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

* Twelve or more YOE as an individual contributor in one or more of the roles managed plus three or more years of experience (YOE) in a relevant management role, OR Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field plus eight or more years of experience (YOE) in one or more of the roles managed, OR Master's Degree in a relevant field plus five or more years of experience (YOE) in one or more of the roles managed
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered
* Positions must adhere to qualifications and regulations as described in 10CFR835 and DOE-STD-1098-2008

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
