What You'll Be Doing:


The Safety & Engineering Intern will support the Environmental, Health & Safety Department in creating, standardizing, and improving machinespecific energycontrol procedures across our operations. This handson role directly contributes to our Zero Accident Culture initiative by helping ensure equipment is safely maintained, serviced, and operated and support the EH&S team in strengthening our OSHA-compliant lockout/tagout (LOTO) program for the control of hazardous energy.

This role will focus on:


  • Identifying equipment that requires machine-specific deenergization procedures
  • Developing and updating energy control procedures in alignment with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147
  • Creating and maintaining equipment and procedure assets in our EHS/maintenance systems
  • Supporting field verification, labeling, and documentation to improve safety and compliance


The intern will work closely with EHS, Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations.


Key Responsibilities


  • Identify Equipment: Conduct site walkthroughs to identify machines requiring LOTO procedures and document associated hazardous energy sources.
  • Develop Procedures: Create and update machine-specific deenergization/LOTO procedures using standardized templates and OSHA 1910.147 requirements.
  • Create Assets Inventory: Build and maintain equipment and procedure records in the EHS safety suite, ensuring accuracy and proper linkage.
  • Field Verification: Participate in equipment walkdowns to validate procedure steps, confirm isolation points, and assist with labeling.
  • Documentation & Data Management: Organize procedure drafts, revisions, and approvals; maintain consistent document control.
  • Program Support: Assist with LOTO audits, address program gaps, and support updates to training materials and visual aids.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety rules, use proper PPE, and report hazards promptly; work under supervision for all LOTO-related field activities.

What You Bring to the Table:


  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in one of the following (or closely related) fields:

    • Occupational Safety & Health / Environmental Health & Safety
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering


  • In good academic standing with their institution
  • Strong interest in safety, risk reduction, and regulatory compliance
  • Basic understanding of industrial equipment and systems (mechanical and/or electrical)
  • Ability to learn and apply OSHA concepts, particularly control of hazardous energy (LOTO)
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Comfortable performing equipment walkdowns in production/plant environments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational skills - able to manage multiple equipment lists and procedure revisions



Bonus Points If You Have:


Prior coursework or project work in:


  • Safety engineering, industrial safety, or EHS
  • Electrical circuits, power systems, or machine design


Familiarity with:


  • Reading mechanical or electrical drawings/schematics
  • P&IDs, single-line diagrams, or equipment manuals


Experience with:


  • EHS software or asset management systems
  • Technical writing or SOP development
  • Previous internship or coop in manufacturing, lab, utilities, or industrial settings

  • Full-time: Hybrid Schedule (Onsite Mon-Thu, Remote Fri)
  • Location: Danbury, CT
  • Dates of Program: June 15 to August 20, 2026
  • A reliable commute or the intention to find temporary housing before starting the internship is required.
