Job Overview


  • The primary purpose of the Project Manager (PM) position is to plan and manage the delivery of solutions in support of business objectives and ongoing operations. This includes project planning, estimating, execution, tracking, implementation and ongoing support.



  • The PM will work closely with other Surface Haulage Business Unit (SHBU) Project Managers, Engineering Directors, Group Managers and vendors in defining systems/project benefits, scope, approach, resource requirements, timing deliverables and funding. Position will provide leadership and direction to project teams throughout the full lifecycle of the project.



  • The PM will be tasked with utilizing the SHBU's Program Management tools and procedures/processes to track and manage moderately complex product development projects. He/she will create and maintain project templates, reports and suitable action plans.



  • The PM may be responsible for managing projects up to or exceeding $15M; with a duration of 3 months to 3 years. The applicant will be expected to manage 1 large project, 1-3 medium projects or 3-6 smaller projects. This role supports the Surface Haulage Business Unit - Program and Project Management Office.



Key Job Responsibilities

  • Creates and executes project work plans, and revises as appropriate to meet changing business requirements
  • Leads a team of internal engineers and/or 3rd party consultants to cost effectively implement and deliver technology & business solutions.
  • Effectively applies Komatsu's methodologies and enforces project standards.
  • Identifies and escalates critical issues/risk appropriately and initiate corrective actions to Management, includes but is not limited to resource conflicts.
  • Manages day-to-day operational aspects of project (scope, schedule, budget, & resources).Evaluates and minimizes risks to project.
  • Effectively communicates relevant project information to Project Sponsor, Management and other Stakeholders.
  • Advocates the advantages of Project Management principles and practices throughout the organization.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, developments, and best practices - recommends more efficient methods of operations and project delivery.

  • Manage project priorities focusing on meeting deadlines.
  • Track, manage and follow through on action items via internal and external requests.
  • Escalate program risks to Senior Project Manager, and Program Management team as needed.
  • Typical travel requirement is 5% - 10%.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS or higher, or minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years of project management experience required.
  • Experience leading teams of up to 15 people, contractors, across multiple functions within the enterprise. Managed at least two full lifecycle projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of Project Management and SDLC disciplines and standards. Strong business process skills required.
  • Must have excellent and persuasive oral and written communication skills. Must be capable of creating clear and effective presentations, and/or meetings with clients, peers, and management.
  • Schedule management experience - both waterfall and agile
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient work knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with portfolio/project management tools


Preferred Skills



  • Project Management Professional (PMP) is highly desirable
  • Member in good standing with the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Manufacturing industry knowledge preferred
  • Experience working on engineering/technical development projects preferred

Hiring Range

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $88,100 - $110,100. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
