Job Description




As a Security Officer - Refinery Access Gate in Salt Lake City, UT, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Chemical/Petrochemical, and more. As an Access Control Officer at a chemical and petrochemical location, you will help manage entry and exit points, verify credentials, process visitors and contractors, and maintain clear logs and reports. You will remain visible, conduct routine rounds as needed, and communicate professionally with site teams to help identify and report security-related concerns. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to client personnel and visitors by following security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
  • Control access at gates and entry points by verifying identification, badging requirements, and authorization for employees, contractors, vendors, and visitors.
  • Process visitors and contractors using sign-in procedures, visitor logs, and credential checks; issue and recover temporary badges and/or passes per site policy.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing vehicle traffic, confirm delivery and pickup documentation, and direct drivers to designated locations according to site rules.
  • Operate access control systems such as card readers, gates, and intercoms; document access issues and notify supervision and/or site contacts as needed.
  • Maintain detailed shift activity reports, incident reports, and access logs using written and/or electronic reporting tools.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including notifications, scene control, and coordination with on-site personnel.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols around buildings, process areas, and the perimeter to help to deter unauthorized access and identify irregular conditions; working environments and conditions may vary by location.
  • Monitor cameras and alarm panels where assigned, investigate alerts, and escalate concerns following post orders and site procedures.
  • Support emergency response activities by assisting with accountability steps, controlled access during events, and directing responders per site instructions.
  • Communicate clearly with Allied Universal management, client contacts, and local responders as needed; use radios, phones, and/or computer systems in accordance with policy.
  • Follow chemical and petrochemical location requirements for restricted areas, prohibited items, and controlled photography, and report observed policy violations through the proper channels.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be 21+ years of age.
  • CPR Certification is preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
