Job Output

This position is under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. A CNC Programmer works under moderate supervision within established procedures within the functional area of metals; may assist with training production staff across various aspects of product manufacturing. Responsible for developing and maintaining the essential programs necessary for operating all production machine(s) in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

-Develop programs tailored to both custom and standard product orders, utilizing optimal programming techniques for each machine.

  • Utilize Lean methods such as common twin line punching, common line cutting, process efficiency nesting to enhance material utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure material utilization targets of 85% or higher are consistently met for all jobs/programs.
  • Prioritize safety by implementing effective methods for parting material webs and tabs, facilitating safer and more efficient scrap disposal and material and parts loading/unloading.
  • Provide support to production by operating equipment and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Operate within a job shop manufacturing environment, adapting to varying project requirements.
  • Offer recommendations for enhancing quality and efficiency in manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and internal stakeholders to devise innovative product design solutions.
  • Assist in inventory control as required, supporting the Purchasing department.
  • Interpret shop drawings accurately to guide machining processes effectively.
  • Contribute to the physical assembly of prototypes, aiding project teams as necessary.
  • Uphold a clean and safe work environment following 5S practices, adhering to company policies and Safety Program.
  • Motivate and inspire production employees to maintain high standards of workmanship.
  • Operate various production machines when necessary
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

  • Possess arithmetic skills
  • Possess knowledge of personal computers skills (Proficient in MS Office applications)
  • Ability to accurately interpret technical drawings, blueprints and/or shop drawings and have a working knowledge of precision measuring tools (such as: calipers, micrometers, etc.).
  • Experience in software such as EnRoute, Rhino, Photoshop, Onyx/Photo??? a plus
  • Understand oral and written instructions
  • Ability to learn quickly, meet deadlines, and maintain equipment
  • Capable of training production staff across various aspects of product manufacturing.
  • Possess decision-making skills and the ability to contribute to strategic planning.
  • Communication and people skills; team player willing to learn.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (i.e., ability to wear required PPE, work in a dusty, hot, non-climate-controlled environment; with stairs, frequent walking, standing and occasional lifting of material).
  • Ability to work off shift hours in support of plant initiatives.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in core production roles within 90 days of hire.

  • Due to the open environment of the warehouse, must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity and cold

Work Environment

  1. Office Environment - This position may operate in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This role may use standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines in a limited capacity. No PPE is required.
  2. Plant Environment - This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty/dirty conditions. Where applicable PPE is required. PPE includes hard hats, safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Bachelor's Degree or technical training in a related field (preferred)
  • Programming and machine operation experience in a manufacturing environment is essential.
