The Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is seeking a Research Lab Tech IIto join the laboratory of Dr. Gage Crump. Dr. Crump uses zebrafish to understand how the cartilages and bones of our faces are patterned during development. The lab is discovering the local tissue-tissue interactions that control skeletal differentiation and morphogenesis in vivo, and also exploring novel ways of regenerating bone in adults.

The Research Lab Tech II will provide general laboratory assistance to support research activities and will conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols. Collecting field and/or laboratory measurements and data. Computing results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques.
  • Maintaining accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments. Uses laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data. Providing routine interpretations of analyses.
  • Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment. Performing or arranging for basic repairs. May alter equipment to meet experiment requirements. Makes recommendations for equipment acquisitions.
  • Maintaining research facility in orderly, operable condition. Maintaining security and safety of equipment, samples, specimens and data.

The hourly rate range for this position is $25.71 - $30.14. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.


Minimum Education: Associate's degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree
Minimum Experience: 2 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.
