Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard penetrometer testing operations including performing boring and Geoprobes.
  • Operate Geoprobe unit for the collection of soil and Cone Penetrometer (CPT) data.
  • Complete drilling operations by operating drill, including rotary, churn, and pneumatic; monitoring progress; adjusting bit weight and rotary speed; changing bit; removing debris; setting explosives; operate gasoline, diesel, electric, or stream draw works.
  • Locate borings in the field.
  • Record all required drilling data.
  • Ability to safely advance borings of 200+ feet in depth.
  • Ability to advance rock cores of 100+ feet.
  • Ability to install groundwater monitoring wells and knowledge of local/state code requirements for installation and abandonment.
  • Ability to install geotechnical instrumentation such as inclinometer casings, vibrating wire piezometers, etc.
  • Keep supervisor informed of changing site conditions and/or additional testing requested on project sites.
  • Report all project specific issues directly to the project manager and/or your supervisor.
  • Perform drill rig and support truck maintenance - Reporting all repair and maintenance issues to your supervisor.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems including those of electrical or hydraulic nature. Potentially perform complex repairs with a high level of knowledge of rigs and equipment.
  • Safely and accurately load drill rig and support vehicle each day with supplies needed.
  • Plan daily schedule to meet productivity goals set by your supervisor and/or department management.
  • Promptly and accurately complete time sheets and field paperwork.
  • Care for and clean assigned company vehicles and drilling equipment and any other assigned equipment. Notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment.
  • Maintain professional behavior and quality standards.
  • Train and mentor Drilling Helper and Drillers.
  • Maintain safe, healthy, and environmentally sound work environment by following organization standards and legal regulations; preventing spillage' wearing personal protective equipment; storing and maintaining hazardous material.
  • Willingness to work out of town and non-standard work schedules when required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 10 years of related experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Water Well Driller Licensure: Ability to achieve state water well driller licensure, depending on state requirements and need. Prior licensure is preferred.
  • Commercial Driver's License: May be required depending on the needs of the office/subsidiary, but is preferred. If driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required.
  • Can perform hollow stem auger, mud rotary, and rock coring drilling techniques and has experience with advanced project requirements such as barge work, dams, 200 ft deep borings, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing)
  • Dependable, self-motivated, responsible and detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of GPS systems
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of geotechnical and environmental drilling methods, and ability to interpret data
  • Significant hands-on experience with drill rigs, push rigs, drilling procedures, and sampling methods
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with hydraulic system repairs
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, peers and supervisors as well as independently
  • Advanced proficiency with electronic devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops
  • Increasing math skills to support assigned tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 85 pounds a number of times each day, stand for extended periods, and walk on uneven ground through various terrains.
