Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.


Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops composite materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Qualifies, troubleshoots, de-risks and matures manufacturing facilities, equipment and processes ensuring compliance to engineering and specification requirements
  • Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing methods and quality engineering specifications and standards.
  • Reviews and approves engineering drawings and documents for part conformance and to assist in resolving part failure analysis for fabrication, assembly and in service problems.
  • Applies knowledge of aerospace mechanical/structural component fabrication and assembly processes and technologies to establish research and development strategies and plans.
  • Facilitates technology implementation in production and provides support to the user community.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical and/or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or other related course of study, from an ABET accredited program
  • Associate Engineer (Level 2): 2+ years working as an engineer in a related field
  • Mid-Level Engineer (Level 3): 5+ years working as an engineer in a related field
  • Preliminary knowledge of composites manufacturing processes, equipment and aircraft structures
  • Interact primarily with mentor, other team members and immediate supervisor
  • Support to develop test plans, coordinate testing, test reports for qualification activities and author material and process specifications for Spirit AeroSystems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to work independently or on a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Experience with CATIA and/or NX 3D model manipulation and drawing creation
  • Strong written and oral communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work well within a multifunctional team (MFT) / integrated product team (IPT) environments
  • Experience with aircraft manufacturing-related standards, materials and processes , and/or material science
  • Experience writing, reviewing and facilitating test plans, reviewing planning documents for test execution, and overseeing the execution of test coupon fabrication

This is a union-represented position.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range - Associate Engineer (Level 2): $79,000 - $121,100

Summary Pay Range - Mid-Level Engineer (Level 3): $96,050 - $147,250
