Job Summary

Trains and mentors health information management (HIM) staff. Coordinates work flow. Performs quality monitoring and participates in activities to improve outcomes for the integrity of the electronic health record (EHR).

Essential Functions
  • Measures employees' performance to ensure required productivity levels and quality standards are being met. Provides input regarding performance and recommends performance enhancement or corrective action as necessary.
  • Ensures that required documentation for activities within area of responsibility is performed accurately, communicated concisely and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the work flow of the assigned team, anticipating absences, vacations, and job openings. Performs the essential functions of the department as necessary.
  • Participates in process improvement activities. Assists in planning and standardization of work flow / system / service enhancements.
  • Communicates and collaborates with appropriate departments across the Corewell Health system and to external 3rd party vendors, insurance companies, and regulatory bodies, etc.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on essential HIM functions and work flows.
  • Answers inquiries from departments regarding HIM system and resolves or escalates as appropriate.
Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant experience Health Information Management or related field

Preferred

  • Associate's degree or equivalent
  • CRT-Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AHIMA American Health Information Management Association
  • CRT-Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA American Health Information Management Association
