As an IT Business Technical Analyst I / II, you'll play a key role in bridging business needs with technology solutions. Your work ensures that our systems run efficiently, workflows are optimized, and teams have the tools they need to succeed. This position is critical to delivering innovative IT solutions that support APS's mission and strategic goals.


What your day would be like:
You are responsible for:


  • Analyze & Design Solutions: Assess business and information needs to design IT systems that improve efficiency and workflow.
  • Configure & Implement: Set up and deploy business systems and applications to meet operational requirements.
  • Maintain & Support: Ensure systems remain reliable through ongoing maintenance and technical support.
  • Test & Validate: Conduct thorough testing to guarantee system functionality and performance.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with business units and IT partners to deliver integrated solutions.

Minimum Requirements

IT Business Technical Analyst I | Palo Verde




  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
  • PLUS one (1) year of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Requires basic technical subject matter knowledge within a job area or system


IT Business Technical Analyst II | Palo Verde




  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
  • PLUS two (2) year of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Requires working technical knowledge gained through experience within a job area or system

    Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • Skill in assessing business requirements via interviews, requirements determination using structured techniques for documentation, analysis, evaluation/validation; decomposition of high-level information into details; abstracting low-level information; distinguishing requests vs needs; distinguishing requirements vs. solutions; classifying/ prioritizing requirements; OO techniques using UML models; ambiguity analysis, ensuring consistent understanding across users, designers and testers; business process modeling of current state and desired/future state processes; defining and managing scope and client expectations, requirements change management and traceability; identifying and mitigating risks; applying creativity to solving complex problems
  • Ability to advocate technology changes that provide value and support APS business goals; meet commitments; foster relationships amongst the business leaders; adapt to technology changes; put systems and procedures in place to assure that all relevant information is shared consistently; organize, prioritize, and plan work activities
  • Apply creative solutions to business problems to ensure business needs are most effectively met; understand and anticipate needs and priorities of both internal and external stakeholders; demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations and streamline work processes.

    Nuclear requirement: Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response
    Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.
    Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage.
    This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.
    These are a condition of employment at PVNGS.

Major Accountabilities

1) Analyzes basic business problems to be solved with automated systems
2) Conducts data gathering and analysis to understand business strategy requirements
3) Participates in the elicitation, documentation, analysis, and validation of business processes, systems, and solution requirements
4) Assists in creating specifications for systems to meet business requirements
5) Provides assistance in documenting current business processes and models
6) Assists in identifying and evaluating systems and procedures that are cost effective, efficient, reliable, and meet user requirements
7) Executes unit integration and acceptance testing
8) Research components of solutions to problems

HybridRole:

Employees in hybrid roles will work both in their home offices and alongside their colleagues at an APS facility or other work location for meaningful in person engagement.

As of January 2025, hybrid-role employees will be asked to work about 40% of their time in person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

*Employees in Hybrid roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
