The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience. Job Overview: Acts as a pharmacist and ensures that medications are provided in a safe and rational manner according to legal/professional standards and practices. Reviews prescriptions to ensure that the medication, dose, dosing interval and route are appropriate. Provides drug information to and consults with physicians, nurses, other health care providers and patients about medication therapy when appropriate. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. Assists with the daily management of staff and systems as well making sure that staff performance standards and operational efficiencies are met. They exercise considerable independent decision making. Does not have one assigned pharmacy. Works at assigned pharmacy in need of coverage help due to vacations, sick days or general shortages. Last minute schedule changes due to coverage demands. MUST have the ability to float to all RWJBH Retail Pharmacy locations. Qualifications: Education: Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education. Must hold a valid pharmacist license from the State of New Jersey Experience: A minimum of one year's retail pharmacy experience is recommended. Licensure: Must maintain an active Pharmacist license/registration in good standing as required by NJ Board of Pharmacy Scheduling Requirements: Day, early evenings and some weekends when necessary. Does not have one assigned pharmacy. Works at an assigned pharmacy in need of coverage help due to vacations, sick days or general shortages. Last minute schedule changes due to coverage demands. Essential Functions: Prescription Workflow Process: * Responsible for prescription workflow-including accurate data entry, handling of insurance issues, and verification * Must document changes or notations to original prescription when necessary * Has good working knowledge and abides by insurance rules and regulations (ex: Medicare D, Medicaid, commercial) * Provide quality customer service and answering phones in a timely manner * Provides drug information/consults with physicians, nurses, other health care providers and patients about medication therapy * Receives prescription request from multiple sources (new/refill) and process them accordingly and accurately * Ability to use different medication resources to evaluate medication issues such as drug interactions, allergies, etc. * Works with attention to detail with the realization that errors may have serious consequences * Ensure that only pharmacists provide professional consultation to patients/prescribers and accept pharmacists accept new telephoned prescription orders * Proficient in use of Pharmacy and other departmental software as required for the position * Adheres to all necessary policies and procedures regarding CII to CV inventory control * Security of the pharmacy department is maintained * Ensure pharmacy department is maintained in an orderly and sanitary manner * Report any theft and/or diversion of any and all medications (including CDS) * Daily reports and invoices are filed and maintained in an orderly fashion in chronological order * Retrieves customer prescription for pick-up and adheres to policy and procedures to verify correct patient * May be asked to operates cash register (POS) to accept payment and signatures from customers * Downtime tasks such as prescription filing and checking for outdates are necessary * Assist and supervise pharmacy technicians, when necessary, plus ability to delegate tasks to technicians during downtime * Follows USP<800> medication regulations when required Inventory: * Wholesaler ordering (when necessary) with accuracy and efficiency, resolves discrepancies * Signs and awareness of paperwork/records as defined by company and federal/state regulations * Assist the department with pharmacy inventory management; inventory returns; outdated medications * Cardinal Invoices/Credits are addressed accordingly and filed in a timely manner * Must maintain CIM inventory - Negative on hand values, high dollar items, and RTS needs * Return overstock Cardinal items within 30 days of invoice to avoid return to stock surcharges * The Pharmacy Pick Up Bin is maintained in an orderly fashion and 14-day scripts are credit returned and restocked. * Shows inventory awareness, ensures that order quantities are optimal based on usage and shelf levels Miscellaneous: * Willingness and flexibility to work alternating and rotating work schedules on short notice * Does not have one assigned pharmacy. MUST cover shifts at all RWJBH retail pharmacy locations * Works at assigned pharmacy in need of coverage help due to vacations, sick days or general shortages.
