Genentech's Data, Digital, and Analytics (DDA) team is dedicated to solving complex healthcare challenges and improving patient outcomes. DDA empowers business partners across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) to make impactful decisions by leveraging data, analytics, and AI/ML to enable fast, targeted actions in rapidly evolving business contexts.

The Opportunity

The Director, AI Product Management is responsible for leading, managing, and advancing the AI Platform Suite to drive data-driven decision-making across CMG.

This role defines the platform suite vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities to maximize business impact. The Director, AI Product Management collaborates with senior leaders, technical teams, and business stakeholders to integrate capabilities, optimize resource allocation, and drive adoption. Additionally, they oversee execution, measure impact, and champion the platform suite's role in enabling scalable analytics solutions across the organization.

  • Strategy & Vision: Define the vision and product standards for AI products, aligning with the organizational AI strategy, industry trends, and ethical frameworks.

  • Product Development & Roadmap: Drive the development and execution of AI product roadmaps, balancing business requirements, technical feasibility, and regulatory compliance, and establishing CI/CD mechanisms for foundational products.

  • Ownership & Lifecycle Management: Serve as the central owner for the AI product lifecycle, overseeing strategic planning, development, adoption, and performance measurement, including developing business cases for strategic experimentation.

  • Stakeholder & Communication: Lead stakeholder alignment for the stacked AI product backlog, resolving conflicts, and effectively communicating the value proposition, strategic impact, and roadmaps to senior leadership.

  • Integration & Partnership: Partner closely with RDT and technical teams to ensure seamless integration of AI capabilities across digital ecosystems, adhering to enterprise architecture and ensuring platform interoperability and scalability.

  • Adoption & Compliance: Lead the adoption strategy in collaboration with customer experience and change management teams, while ensuring continuous compliance with all governing laws and regulations.

  • Team Leadership & Culture: Lead, mentor, and manage Data Science product talent, cultivate an inclusive and innovative team culture, and dynamically allocate resources to execute strategic business priorities.

Who You Are

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Business, or a related technical field.

  • You have a minimum of 8 years of combined professional experience in Product Management, Data Science, AI, or Software Development.

  • You have a proven ability to own and manage the full product lifecycle, from visioning and roadmap creation to execution and impact measurement.

  • You have a strong understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, Predictive/Agentic AI, Data Science concepts, underlying machine learning models, and automation platforms, coupled with fluency in data systems and technology platforms to inform strategic product decisions.

  • You have strong strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and leadership/team management abilities, with experience in coaching/mentoring and adapting to ambiguous environments (e.g., working in an Agile setting).

  • You have excellent communication and strategic thinking skills required to drive AI adoption, evangelize the product vision, and influence senior stakeholders.

  • You have experience collaborating with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to ensure adherence to governance/regulatory standards while also fostering innovation and experimentation for continuous product improvement, including skills in budget and resource management.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field of study (e.g., Computer Science, MBA or related graduate-level qualification).

  • Relevant certifications in product management, machine learning, data science, and other disciplines.

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated industries.

  • Proven success in managing large-scale, complex products requiring strategic planning and operational execution.

  • Advanced knowledge of workflow tools, automation systems, and compliance frameworks.

  • Deep expertise in and experience developing coding assistants, visualization tools, augmented analytics, citizen data platforms and data science workbenches.

Location

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA and offers a hybrid schedule working 3 days per week on campus.

  • Relocation Assistance is not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $214,500 - $398,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
