Position Highlights

The Department of Physiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson invites applications for multiple tenure-eligible/tenured faculty positions. Particular interest is in applications for assistant professor positions, but we are open to applications for all ranks. We are interested in investigators conducting the most impactful research in any area relevant to physiology, including but not limited to investigators using cutting-edge computational or omics approaches to address major questions in brain-body connections, neurovascular disorders, hypertension, kidney disease, or cardiopulmonary function and investigators who integrate in-depth molecular, cellular, and systems physiology with genetics, epigenetics, or human research.

Our department has a broad and robust research portfolio and is undergoing tremendous growth. Faculty members are principal investigators on NIH P01, U01, RC2, T32, R01, and other grants and grants from other funding agencies. The Department provides outstanding scientific platforms for research conducted in human subjects, non-human primates, rodent models, and human induced pluripotent stem cells. Department faculty possess leading expertise in cutting-edge approaches ranging from multi-omics and big data analysis to imaging, electrophysiology, and tissue and whole organism physiology. Our department houses programs that enhance research development and collaboration across the university including Programs for Translational Multi-Omics, Visceral and Interoceptive Systems Physiology (VISP), Kidney Health and Disease (PKHD), Hypertension Research, and Molecular Investigations of Neurovascular Disorders (MIND). Our department is committed to supporting its faculty members to lead or participate in large-scale, team-science, programmatic research that addresses major challenges in biological, biomedical, and medical sciences.

Our department, unique among departments in medical schools, is home to an undergraduate major in Physiology and Medical Sciences that is one of the largest majors at UArizona with >5000 students enrolled in our undergraduate courses each year. The undergraduate program, taught primarily by educator faculty, uniquely strengthens the whole department. Department faculty participate in campus-wide graduate programs and contribute to medical education.

Physiology faculty collaborate with investigators from across the university and the world. Department faculty also enjoy ready access to extensive and excellent core facilities across the university, many of which are in proximity with the Department (research.arizona.edu/facilities-units).

The Department places a strong emphasis on peer mentoring to enhance the success of all faculty members, especially junior faculty members. For more information about the Department, please see click here.
