The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview: Resident achieves objectives and competencies for each rotation in accordance with ASHP standards for residents in pharmacy practice. The resident actively participates in ambulatory care activities, and ensures that medication therapy is prescribed and managed in a safe and rational manner in accordance with a collaborative practice agreement. Any and all requirements of the RWJBarnabas Health System employment will be met. In addition, the resident will design and deliver programs that contribute to public health efforts, as well as conduct a research project to be presented at an annual pharmacy conference.

Qualifications:
Required: Completion of course at an accredited School of Pharmacy with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD, and completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy practice PGY-1 residency. Current registration in New Jersey as a licensed registered pharmacist required. Familiarity with all phases of ambulatory care pharmacy. Working knowledge of public and population health matters. Familiarity with Federal and State laws regulating professional and ambulatory care practice of Pharmacy. Understands role of ambulatory care pharmacist, and its inter-relationships with other departments and functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Assumes role of drug information provider to all members
    Assumes role of drug information provider to all members of the healthcare team specific to patient populations, chronic disease states, and age groups.
  • Accurately documents medication history in the electronic medical record for all patients.
    Correctly documents all active medications, over the counter products, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Reports and resolves discrepancies.
  • Documents
    Documents interventions and SOAP notes in the electronic medical record after every patient encounter.
  • Enhances professional growth and development
    Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, workshops, in-service meetings, etc.
  • Follows compliance to collaborative practice agreements (if applicable)
  • Meets requirements of ASHP PGY-2 Ambulatory Care residency program
  • Monitors specific medication prescribing
    Monitors specific medication prescribing in accordance with established drug usage criteria and evidence-based literature
  • Participates in medication error and adverse drug reaction reporting programs
    Participates in medication error and adverse drug reaction reporting programs
  • Provides educational rotation for pharmacy residents and students as required
  • Completes required assignments per rotation requirements
