What to Expect

The Failure Analysis Team's mission is todetermineroot causeand contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla's products by reducing fieldissues,in collaboration witha largecommunityof other engineering teams. Engineers andtechnicians on the teamare responsible fora wide variety of vehicle and energy product systems for existing models and models in development. This extremely high visibility individual contributor role requires extensive hands-on work focused onelectromechanicalfailure analysis and root cause activities.

We areseekingan enthusiastic,highly experienced seniortechnician whofinds enjoyment in understanding how things work and how wecan correct and prevent issues from occurring. Theywillbe responsible for assistancewith diagnosing electromechanical concerns.

A successful candidate will need to become intimately familiar with various analysis techniques involving non-destructive and destructive techniques. Examples of those include capturing and understanding 2D X-ray data, mechanical sample preparation,assembly tear down, cross sectioning, basic electrical debug using a multimeter, and documentation of regions of intereston failed samples.They will work alongside experienced engineers whileutilizingsophisticated failure analysis tools toidentifyfailure mechanismsobservedin engineering, production, and field environments.

What You'll Do
  • Support failure analysis activities for electromechanical assemblies with basic failure confirmation&recreation, teardown inspections, documentation while pairedwith critical thinkingtodeterminefailure mechanisms
  • Utilize basic and analytical tools covering various analysis techniques. Examples includehand tools,logging DMM, grinder&polishers, precision diamond saws, 2D X-ray systems,andelemental identificationtools
  • Document the steps throughmultiplesample inspections,replication tests, and teardowns. Examplesincludeuse of Word, Excel, project tracking systems such as Jira, visual&optical image capture

What You'll Bring
  • High School Diplomawith College Degree preferred. Similar achievement of mentorship or trade schoolingcertificationas a substitute
  • 4+ Years of hands-on experience working in an analytical lab, as an automotive technician, extensivedo it yourself skillset, or similar highlighting dexterous ability and problem-solving skills
  • Able to mentor junior members in soldering, useofhand tools, basic electrical debug, entry level fabrication, as well as inspection and analysis techniques
  • Capability to fully dissemble and reassemble electromechanicalassemblies while maintainingfunctionality and form of original state
  • Able todemonstrateunderstanding of automotive electromechanical assemblies and their theories of operation
  • Experience with advanced tools typically involved in electromechanical failure analysis (e.g. oscilloscopes, CAN/LIN tools, tensile testing systems, pressure/leak testers, machine shop equipment)

    Expected Compensation
    $24.40 - $56.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
