| Position Summary |
The Managing Editor serves as a central editorial and content operations leader within the Division of Marketing & Communications, responsible for the planning, editing, writing, production, and strategic presentation of content for
UGA Today and other central university communication platforms. This position oversees the daily flow of stories, manages editorial quality across the division, and ensures that content published through
UGA Today, Georgia Magazine, Columns, marketing channels, and other outlets is timely, accurate, engaging, and aligned with institutional brand and messaging priorities.
Blending editorial oversight, hands-on content execution, digital content management, and campus-wide collaboration, the Managing Editor plays a critical role in shaping how the University of Georgia's accomplishments, initiatives, and stories are discovered, developed, edited, and shared. The position ensures smooth daily operations-including
UGA Today website management and email production-while also contributing original writing, guiding editorial standards across the university, and working with communicators across schools, colleges, units, and divisions to identify and elevate strong stories that enhance the university's reputation and inform internal and external audiences.

UGA Today Website Management, Story Curation, and SCUD Coordination
- Serve as the primary steward of the UGA Today website, create story posts, perform necessary edits on stories and maintain up-to-date content.
- Curate homepage and stories to ensure the most relevant and strategic content is featured.
- Manage incoming story submissions through the stories@uga.edu email. Respond to inquiries, evaluate content suitability, and ensure alignment with editorial standards.
- Coordinate with communicators across schools, colleges, units, and divisions to discover and develop compelling stories.

Edit Content Across the Division
- Serve as editor for written content produced throughout the Division of Marketing & Communications, ensuring accuracy, clarity, consistency, and alignment with UGA's brand messaging and editorial standards.
- Edit UGA Today stories, Georgia Magazine features, Columns content, marketing and promotional copy (as needed), and materials produced by SCUD communicators.
- Provide developmental editing, line editing, and final proofing as needed across formats, including feature stories, news releases, newsletters, web copy, print collateral, and digital marketing content.
- Collaborate with writers, editors, designers, and communicators across the university to elevate story quality and strengthen narrative coherence, offering editorial feedback and guiding revisions through completion.
- Work directly with staff in the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost to secure quotes and incorporate edits for stories that involve executive oversight
