Description

Corporate Controller


Responsible for overall leadership of the accounting and finance functions within the company. Responsible for directing the preparation and review of company financial statements, including approval of journal entries, where necessary, and ensuring all financial close processes are completed timely and accurately. Responsible for preparation and filing of public company financial reports including 8-Ks, 10-Qs, 10-Ks, and proxies. Responsible for establishing internal controls over financial reporting. Responsible for oversight of treasury and risk management functions. Responsible for the handling of confidential information, requiring good judgment, discretion, and sound technical skills. Must be able to work independently and as part of the larger organization on special projects. Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization. The position requires continuous attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while managing multiple tasks and priorities. Location: In-office/non-remote in Maryville, TN.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Overseeing preparation of financial statements for a publicly traded company, including monthly, quarterly, and annual results
  • Preparing and filing public company financial reports, including 8-K's, 10-Q's, and 10-K's
  • Assisting with the preparation of annual proxy materials, including preparation of executive compensation tables and pay versus performance tables
  • Establishing and monitoring internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, legal and regulatory requirements, and company policies and procedures
  • Providing strategic analysis to the CEO and CFO, as required, to drive improved decision making
  • Overseeing risk management, including securing appropriate insurance coverage, recommending deductible limits, and overseeing the management of the company's captive insurance company
  • Managing treasury functions, including supervising accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll departments
  • Managing banking relationships, including preparation of quarterly covenant compliance certificates
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly cash forecasts
  • Administering, in coordination with the human resource department, the employee stock purchase and equity awards programs
  • With input from the CFO, review and update accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Managing the company's relationship with external auditors
  • Assisting with merger and acquisition activities, as needed.

Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant, public accounting experience a plus
  • History of working for a U.S.-listed publicly traded company
  • 3-5 years' experience in similar role

Physical Demands:



  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk
  • Long periods of sitting are required, as well as long periods of working on the computer
  • Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:


Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.



The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:



  • Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor
  • The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
