About the Role

Location: Southfield, MI; hybrid (3 days in office)

What you'll do

The Immigration Professional is on the AlixPartners Legal, Compliance, and Risk team and is responsible for providing immigration-related subject matter expertise in support of AlixPartners globally mobile management consultants and other firm professionals. This position will assist with key projects to establish, execute, and support a strategic, innovative, and client-focused immigration program.

The Immigration Professional position is in Southfield, MI, reporting to an Immigration Manager. Paid relocation is not available.



  • Serve as a subject matter expert in immigration compliance commensurate with experience
  • Analyze and recommend immigration strategy for U.S. inbound foreign national population.
  • Assist with immigration compliance for short-term business travelers, project teams, international assignees, and locally hired foreign nationals outside the US, as needed.
  • Facilitate employment-based immigration filings with outside counsels for visa, work authorization and permanent residency benefits.
  • Administer and coordinate immigration processes with respective internal stakeholders (Management, Tax, Benefits, Travel, Payroll).
  • Complete select immigration filings in-house.
  • Update the Case Management System and maintain internal resources to track requests, statuses, expirations, and deadlines.

What you'll need



  • Bachelor's degree highly preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in similar or related role.
  • Knowledge of S. employment-based immigration policies and procedures.
  • Experience handling H-1B, L-1, TN and E-3 visa cases and employment-based Permanent Residency process highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting foreign nationals in-house preferred.
  • Immigration compliance experience in other jurisdictions is a plus.
  • Experience with a Case Management system (specifically Envoy) is a plus.
  • Ability to generate accurate work product in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to interact with a diverse group of colleagues at all levels.
  • Customer service mindset with the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative environment as well as independently.
  • Thoughtful problem solver with the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a changing work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience in a decentralized multinational, professional services environment preferred.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and as unique projects/needs arise.
  • Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.
