Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Coordinator II, Nursing Lab will be responsible for creating and managing a multidimensional educational link between the nursing courses and the nursing laboratory/practical experience that will enable students to connect the rationale and theory for the skills they will perform in the clinical setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Collaborates with faculty to create nursing laboratory schedules
  2. Maintains communication with faculty regarding lab assignments and nursing lab utilization & set-ups
  3. Assists with utilization and troubleshooting of simulators
  4. Keeps current with new technologies and safety regulations, directs and monitors laboratory safety protocols, conducts risk management assessments to proactively evaluate the physical environment of the nursing lab, and assists in maintaining compliance of all regulatory agencies of the college and nursing programs
  5. Maintains an accurate inventory and quality assurance of laboratory equipment and learning resources
  6. Orients students and faculty to the nursing lab and provides mentoring to students in Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Transition Nursing Program and Vocational Nurse (VN) Nursing Programs
  7. Participates in all System-Wide Nursing Lab Coordinator Committee meetings
  8. Coordinates with bookstore to order laboratory packs for students
  9. Collaborates on grant proposals to obtain additional funding to enhance nursing programs
  10. Assists with department budget preparation, tracks expenditures, and assures that discrepancies are resolved
  11. Coordinates, facilitates, and manages lab tours and events
  12. Analyzes and improves procedures/practices to ensure learning environment enhances students' intellectual and skills development
  13. Provides supervision and direction for part-time student workers
  14. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience, which demonstrates abilities in nursing practice, ability to mentor students in the lab settings
  • Maintains Basic Life Support Certification for Health Care Workers
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision, broad knowledge of the nursing sciences, successful handling of day-to-day operations of the nursing lab
  • Ability to determine own approach to complete work
  • Ability to organize work around broad organization and goals
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires incumbent to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs
  • Ability to perform professional-level work dealing with data, people, and technology that relates to administrative, technical, scientific, engineering, accounting, legal, or managerial skills
  • Skill to make decisions that govern the activities and behaviors of other staff members
  • Skill and ability to be held responsible for determining a problem and creating an individual solution to the issue
  • Skill to prepare and/or process purchase orders
  • Skill to be held accountable for inventory
  • Skill to make recommendations that impact the budget
  • Skill to manage the budget within the assigned department

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • High fidelity and low fidelity simulation equipment
  • Nursing skills lab equipment
  • Work in a safe and secure work/lab environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or higher and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license with the State of Texas
Salary

Hiring salary range is $44,793 - $51,512

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
