Position Announcement

The Employee Relations Coordinator supports Utah Tech University by coordinating and executing all aspects of employee relations in close partnership with and in direct support of the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). This role coordinates and participates in workplace reviews and investigations, complaint coordination, and case management from intake through resolution, ensuring compliance with University policies and applicable employment laws. Working at the direction of the CHRO, the coordinator assists with sensitive employee relations matters, prepares investigative findings and recommendations, and supports executive decision-making on complex or high-risk cases. The position maintains thorough investigative documentation and digital case records and collaborates closely with the Office of General Counsel, Title IX, Internal Audit, the Attorney General's Office, and University Police on matters requiring cross-functional coordination.

In addition to core employee relations responsibilities, the coordinator provides specialized analytical, compliance, and support to the CHRO, including assistance with training strategy, compliance initiatives, data analysis, and performance-related employee relations matters. The role is committed to delivering fair, consistent, and timely service while upholding strict confidentiality and fostering a positive, compliant workplace environment. Funding available thru current fiscal year, position dependent upon funding after that.


Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, confidential support to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) on employee relations matters, investigations, policy interpretation, and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct employee relations investigations from intake through analysis, documentation, and resolution.
  • Assist the CHRO with complex or sensitive cases by preparing briefings, investigative summaries, findings, and recommendations.
  • Keep CHRO aware of trends, systemic issues, and risk areas arising from employee relations cases.
  • Track employee relations metrics, case outcomes, and compliance trends to support leadership decision-making.
  • Escalate matters to the CHRO as appropriate and assist with executive-level coordination and response.
  • Coordinate HR-owned Silent Whistleblower cases, including intake, investigation support, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Ensure employee relations actions and recommendations are aligned with University policy, employment law, and risk management standards.
  • Maintain accurate digital investigative records in compliance with documentation and audit standards.
  • Draft templates, policies, and procedures related to employee relations for review and approval by the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).
  • Advise supervisors and employees on policy application, workplace expectations, and corrective action processes.
  • Coordinate conflict resolution and recommend or assign employee relations-related training as appropriate.
  • Review HR-owned policies and provide recommendations during revision cycles.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive employee and executive information.
  • Continuously reviews processes and systems to support efficient workflows, assists with identifying improvements, and supports implementation of updates in collaboration with the CHRO.
  • Maintains knowledge of HR practices, provides backup support as needed, assists with day-to-day HR functions and training, and supports the CHRO in implementing HR-related activities.
  • Completes special assignments and projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field OR equivalent education/experience.
  • At least four years' HR work experience
  • At least two years' experience working specifically with employee relations
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and standards of HR management, as well as state and federal regulations related to HR.
  • Experience with and ability to manage time effectively and coordinate several detailed projects in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills, with an attention to detail.
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Strong computer skills, including database, spreadsheet, internet, and email.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to answer questions in a timely manner, ensuring consistency and accuracy in messaging.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with faculty and staff to ensure both trust and accountability.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $58,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Funding available thru current fiscal year, position dependent upon funding after that. Desired start date of March 2026.
