The Opportunity

Our Materials & Coatings Engineering team within TC Energy's Pipe Integrity Engineering Services department is seeking an Intermediate Coatings Engineer or Technologistbased in Houston.

Reporting to the Manager, Materials & Coatings Engineering, this role will develop strategies that ensure our pipeline coatings meet our design needs and specifications. You will aid in developing and maintaining TC Energy's specifications and standards, evaluating and auditing manufacturers and assessing materials for suitability of use in our pipeline system. Your knowledge will support our research efforts and contributions to international codes and standards.

What you'll do

  • Collaboration: Work closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Projects, and other Engineering teams to ensure the specification and application of high-quality coatings for all types of pipeline applications.
  • Project Support: Through specifications and standards, identify and select appropriate coating systems & processes based on project requirements, ensuring they meet quality, cost and performance standards. Support projects in the office, at suppliers and in the field as needed.
  • Supplier Management: Evaluate and manage the technical capabilities of suppliers to ensure they provide materials that meet the required specifications and quality standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Develop and implement engineering quality control processes and methods to ensure coatings systems meet the necessary standards and specifications. Perform site inspections and audits when required
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to other teams, including troubleshooting coating issues, performing Root Cause Analysis, and recommending solutions.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of material reviews, test results, and quality control processes records. Contribute to and maintain company coatings specifications and technical requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance coating product quality and optimize application efficiency.
  • Serve as Technical Lead to assigned working teams or special initiatives
  • Provide review oversight, coaching and mentorship to junior members of the team

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related degree.

  • 8+ years' experience in coating evaluation and selection, manufacturer evaluation, audit and inspection or related experience.

  • Proven knowledge of natural gas pipelines and station design codes and standards (e.g. CSA Z662, CSA Z245.xx, AMPP, ASME B31, etc)

  • Proven experience in coating applications, quality assurance, or a related role.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong knowledge of coating systems and processes, testing methods, and quality control processes.

  • Ability to work and travel in North America and to manufacturing locations.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with asset life cycle management

  • Experience with inspecting & auditing of plant, shop and field coatings,

  • Proven Management of Change process experience and use of evaluation practices and tools required to successfully complete a change

  • Proficient with process incident root-cause analyses and addressing corrective actions

  • Ability to think analytically, perform analysis, and support recommendations

This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or audits (estimated up to 15% of work schedule)
