Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent, customer service experience is preferred.

Overview

Under general supervision, is responsible for entry level professional unemployment work of average difficulty involving interviewing members of the public that are applying for unemployment benefits, and performs related work as required. An employee in this class conducts personal interviews that help determine an unemployment insurance claimant's eligibility. This class differs from the Unemployment Claims Adjudicator in that incumbents in the latter make determinations on disputed unemployment insurance claims.

Responsibilities

1. Retrieves relevant information from employer and claimant to complete unemployment claim process, review unemployment claims for accuracy, and completeness
2. Learns to explain and interpret unemployment insurance programs, guidelines, rules and regulations to applicants and employers through training, relevant materials and email updates.
3. Identifies appropriate type of claim and reason for separation from employment based on information gathered, detects changes in claimant circumstances and makes initial determination of eligibility of each application for benefits.
4. Learns to enter relevant information into the unemployment insurance database.
5. May provide guidance or training for continuous improvement regarding the unemployment claims process.
6. All other duties as required.
