The Position

Department Summary

Department of Synthetic Molecule Pharmaceutics (SMP) is part of the Synthetic Molecule Pharmaceutical Sciences (SMPS) organization. Our department is committed to developing and delivering safe, effective and high-quality formulations in support of research and clinical development for the synthetic molecules coming out of gRED. Our research spans from fundamental understanding of physicochemical properties of molecules to drug delivery technologies needed for the development and manufacturing of dosage forms.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Engineered and characterized novel nanoparticle (NP) formulations for targeted drug delivery.

  • Designed and executed a comprehensive nanoparticle platform, optimizing for enhanced targeted delivery efficacy.

  • Developed and implemented novel analytical methodologies to evaluate and ensure high-level performance of lipid nanoparticle (LNP) systems.

  • Conducted rigorous data analysis, precisely measuring key metrics including particle size, entrapment efficiency (EE%), and target density.

  • Communicated and presented research findings and technical recommendations to cross-functional teams, facilitating platform development.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required Majors:

  • Chemistry and Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science Engineering.

Required Skills:

  • Strong foundational knowledge of organic and analytical chemistry principles.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experiences in nanoparticle formulation preparation, synthesis, and comprehensive characterization.

  • Adept at literature review and scientific troubleshooting to resolve experimental failures and guide research.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical report generation and presentation of scientific data.

  • Collaborated effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00 - $50.00 hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
