Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, install, configure, upgrade, and administer MS SQL databases in both operational and analytical environments.

  • Monitor database health, performance, and security; apply patches and ensure compliance with organizational standards.

  • Collaborate with data analysts, data modelers, and engineers to support date lake, business intelligence and analytic needs.

  • Create and manage database objects (schemas, tables, views, procedures).

  • Recommend indexes, partitions, and other techniques to optimize data structures and improve query performance

  • Participate in database migrations and refresh non-production environments with production data.

  • Author and maintain documentation for database configurations, policies, and procedures.

  • Contribute to backup, fail-over, and disaster recovery strategies.

  • Support production on-call rotation for database administration.

  • Strong knowledge of database administration and development, especially MS SQL Server.

  • Experience with Windows, Linux/Unix, shell scripting, and networking.

Work Location:

Hybrid - This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement. While most responsibilities can be effectively performed remotely, we value in-person collaboration and ask for a minimum on-campus presence once a month for essential meetings or activities. Ideally, we prefer three days per week on campus. For employees residing out of state, travel costs will be the employee's responsibility. The work schedule will follow core business hours in the Colorado Mountain Time zone. Although we give preference to candidates based in Colorado or nearby, our ultimate goal is to hire the best candidate for the role, regardless of location.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information systems, or a closely related field from an accredited institution

    • Substitution: 4 years of professional or high-level technical work experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree. An associate's degree with two years of relevant work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree

Experience:

SENIOR:

  • 2 years of MS SQL Server Database Administration experience.

PRINCIPAL:

  • 3-5 years of MS SQL Server Database Administration experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in support of 24x7, five-nines, enterprise production environment

  • Experience in public higher education, state or federal government.

  • Operational Data Store, Data Warehouse, Data Lake and/or Business Intelligence ecosystem experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of database administration and development and systems administration concepts leveraging industry best practices.

  • Ability to work in Microsoft database environments, both on premise and in the cloud.

  • Experience writing, troubleshooting, optimizing and debugging PL/SQL code.

  • Experienced with Windows, Linux/Unix, shell scripting, networking, and data transfer.

  • Self-motivation with good organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to educate, mentor, communicate and effectively present ideas/plans with business and stakeholders to gain consensus.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously, managing time and prioritizing tasks.

  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171 security controls.

  • Experience working in a VMWare clustered environment

  • Experience in UNIX (AIX), RMAN, and authoring shell scripts

  • Familiarity Oracle, Windows, Linux/Unix, shell scripting, networking, data transfer and data security in transit and at rest.Experience configuring and supporting Windows Server and/or Linux environments related to database workloads.

  • Experience with data compliance and classification.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and utilize new technologies and software.

  • Experience using source code repositories (Confluence, GitHub, etc.)

  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Curiosity, self-motivation, and a desire for continuous learning.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as.

Senior Level: $75,000 - $95,000

Principal Level: $90,000 - $115,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
