Job Summary:

We're excited to announce a new opening for a Personal Trainer at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center! This hourly position will provide personal training to clients of the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center to help them evaluate their current condition, set goals, and then work towards meeting these goals, all while addressing each client's individual needs. The Personal Trainer positions are also eligible for commission for personal training sessions provided.

The position is expected to actively seek out clients interested in paying for additional personal training packages offered by the Center. The Center has expertise in nutrition and mindfulness, and this position is expected to know and deliver a consistent message to clients in the Center on these topics. As a key member of our team, the Personal Trainer supports the vision of the center as "a campus where wellness is a foundation of everything we do.

Schedule & FTE

One opening is available with a flexible percent of time (.75-1.0 FTE).

Early mornings, evenings, and weekends are required.

Current operational hours:

  • Mon-Thu: 5:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.

  • Fri: 5:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.

  • Sat-Sun: 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Key Responsibilities:

All Levels:

  • Personal Training Sessions in various formats: 1:1, duo, and small group training using a consistent methodology as provided by the Center.

  • Provide and update plans for clients as they progress; provide supplementary programming as needed to address specific client needs for injury prevention.

  • Fitness floor staffing as needed.

  • Design personalized movement training.

  • Provide movement instruction as needed for Center outreach efforts.

  • Provide movement training for research protocols on campus as needed.

  • Refer clients, as deemed appropriate, to other clinical or programmatic options to support individual goals.

  • Communicate follow up on referrals by providers in the CU Wellness Clinic

  • Administrative and other duties as assigned.

Tier 2 Personal Trainer:

  • Tier 2 trainers work closely with the direct supervisor to write proper exercise programs for clients of all levels.

  • Tier 2 trainers must demonstrate to the direct supervisor that they have proper knowledge of exercise prescription and movement screens for general populations before training clients.

  • During a personal trainer's first six months of employment, they will allocated additional business-building hours with the intention of developing their clientele and fill working hours with sessions.

  • Tier 2 trainers start with >50% of hours coming from operational support activities (supervising the fitness floor, cleaning equipment, seeking out members interested in personal training services, etc.).

  • To start,Tier 2 trainer spends <50% of their hours delivering fitness programming in the form of one-on-one training, duo training, small group training.

Tier 1 Personal Trainer:

  • A Tier 1 trainer spends >50% of their hours delivering fitness programming in the form of one-on-one training, duo training, small group training.

  • A Tier 1 trainer may be a work leader or unit supervisor. The individual contributor may explain work processes and help train Tier 2 personal trainers.

  • They may serve as a resource or guide by advising others on how to use processes within a system or as a member of a collaborative problem-solving team.

  • During a personal trainer's first six months of employment, they will allocated additional business-building hours with the intention of developing their clientele and filling working hours with sessions.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located at 12348 E Montview Blvd in Aurora, Colorado.

AHWC Fitness Center

The 30,000 ft2, three-story Fitness Center at AHWC features state-of-the-art Technogym cardiovascular and Matrix resistance exercise equipment along with three dedicated studios for group exercise classes, a functional training space (FIT Lab), indoor track, pool, hot tub, locker rooms with dedicated steam rooms and saunas, and fitness assessment technology. The Fitness Center offers complimentary fitness consultation sessions, group exercise, personal training services, and massage. The Fitness Center supports over 3,100 members from the campus and community. The Fitness Center business operations are overseen by Fitness Center General Manager and Assistant General Manager. The Fitness Center has more than 50 employees.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Tier 2 Personal Trainer:

  • Certified Personal Trainer certification from a nationally accredited institution (e.g., NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ACE).

  • Two (2) years of personal training experience.

Tier 1 Personal Trainer:

  • Certified Personal Trainer certification from a nationally accredited institution (e.g., NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ACE).

  • Three (3) or more years of personal training experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications (All Levels)

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology.

  • Master's degree in a relevant field such as Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics.

  • Experience in building a clientele from a facility member base.

  • Previous experience working with diagnosed populations in physical movement (e.g., Diabetes, Parkinson's, Traumatic Brain Injury, Geriatrics).

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have or obtain CPR/AED Certification within 60 days of hire and maintain active certification throughout employment

  • Must have active certified personal trainer certification from a nationally accredited institution at the time of hire and throughout the length of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (All Levels)

  • Effectively communicate and motivate clientele.

  • Ability to demonstrate proper form and movement of exercise.

  • Dependable and effective scheduling of clientele.

  • Ability to learn and update skills on an ongoing basis.

1.0 FTE Minimums:

  • Hourly Minimum: $21.12/hour

  • Monthly Minimum: $3,661/month

  • Annual Minimum: $43,932/year

.75 FTE Minimums:

  • Hourly Minimum: $21.12/hour

  • Monthly Minimum: $2,746/month

  • Annual Minimum: $32,949/year

Additional: Eligible commission for personal training sessions.

Tier 1 Personal Trainer

1.0 FTE:

  • Hourly Minimum: $24.44/hour

  • Monthly Minimum: $4,238/month

  • Annual Minimum: $50,856/year

.75 FTE:

  • Hourly: $24.44/hour

  • Monthly Minimum: $3,179/month

  • Annual Minimum: $38,142/year

Additional: Eligible commission for personal training sessions.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
