Master Scheduler & Purchasing Lead
Position Summary
The Master Scheduler & Purchasing Lead is responsible for building and maintaining the master production schedule across multiple manufacturing sites while executing purchasing activities that ensure material availability, inventory accuracy, and supplier compliance in an SQF-certified food manufacturing environment. This role balances demand, capacity, inventory, and supplier performance to support on-time delivery, food safety, and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
Master Scheduling & Planning
- Develop and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) across multiple sites.
- Translate customer demand, forecasts, and replenishment needs into executable production plans.
- Run and interpret MRP outputs; identify material or capacity risks and drive mitigation actions.
- Coordinate with plant schedulers, production, QA, and warehousing to align schedules with labor, equipment, sanitation, and quality constraints.
- Manage schedule changes caused by demand shifts, downtime, quality holds, or supplier delays.
- Plan and manage inter-site inventory transfers and site-level inventory positioning.
- Monitor KPIs including on-time delivery, schedule adherence, inventory levels, and material availability.
Purchasing & Supplier Coordination
- Execute purchasing for raw materials, packaging, and operational supplies across multiple sites.
- Create and manage purchase orders, blanket POs, and supplier releases in the ERP system.
- Maintain accurate planning parameters (lead times, safety stock, MOQ, lot sizes).
- Track inbound deliveries and proactively resolve shortages, delays, and discrepancies.
- Coordinate inbound schedules with warehouse and receiving teams.
SQF / Food Safety & Quality
- Ensure all purchasing is limited to approved suppliers and approved materials.
- Maintain supplier documentation required for SQF compliance (approvals, specs, COAs as applicable).
- Partner with QA on material holds, rejections, substitutions, and supplier corrective actions.
- Support traceability and recall readiness through accurate lot control and system data.
- Participate in internal and external SQF and customer audits as needed.
Continuous Improvement
- Track supplier performance and drive improvements in on-time delivery and reliability.
- Identify opportunities to reduce inventory risk, waste, expediting, and emergency purchases.
- Improve planning and purchasing processes through standard work and cross-site alignment.
Qualifications
- 3+ years in master scheduling, production planning, and/or purchasing in manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of SQF requirements related to suppliers, materials, and traceability.
- ERP/MRP experience (NetSuite a plus)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience in food or regulated manufacturing preferred.
