Estimated annual base pay: $95,000(minimum) - $123,000(midpoint) - $152,000(maximum)

The Level 3 Data Engineer leads the design and delivery of complex data pipelines and models to support downstream use cases such as analytics and machine learning. They help set architecture patterns, optimize performance, and become experts at operational support for various data platforms. They serve as the primary lead on projects and tasks, mentor more junior team members, and work closely with the business to deliver on high-ROI data initiatives. They provide expertise in source system data and become valued technical resources within Woodward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize end-to-end orchestration patterns, architect scalable ETL/ELT solutions, and lead complex logical and physical data modeling efforts.
  • Act as the primary data translator for SAP S/4HANA and other enterprise source systems, and design robust source-to-model mappings.
  • Drive complex requirements gathering with analysts, data scientists, and business owners, lead cross-functional projects delivering data products, and manage ticket prioritization for assigned work.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting across Power BI, Fabric, and Business Objects, optimize tenant capacity, and help design workspace and semantic modeling standards.
  • Design and improve infrastructure patterns for servers and applications, lead complex incident response and root-cause analysis, manage versions and administer servers.
  • Design and enforce cross-platform access models, lead implementation of data masking, and drive compliance controls to meet ITAR/GDPR/PII requirements.
  • Assist with designing metadata and lineage frameworks, automate metadata capture and quality checks.

Key Skills:

  • Advanced SQL
  • Advanced Python/PySpark
  • Advanced experience with ETL/ELT using Azure Synapse pipelines, Azure Data Factory, or comparable tools (AWS Glue, Google Cloud Dataflow, Apache Airflow, etc.). Experience with SAP Data Services preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP S/4HANA data structures and common data models. Experience with SLT sidecar for continuous replication preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of data warehouses (cloud or on-prem), relational databases and data modeling concepts.
  • Advanced proficiency with connecting to, extracting and loading data from REST APIs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI and Fabric admin features (workspace and capacity management, security). Experience with SAP Business Objects and Power BI report development (including DAX and M languages) preferred.
  • System design for reliability and observability, advanced CI/CD and deployment strategies, mature data governance.
  • Effective stakeholder communication to technical and nontechnical audiences, technical leadership, capacity to help drive architecture decisions and trade-offs, team player, continuous learner.

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or related discipline is preferred.
  • 5+ years in data engineering, ETL, data warehousing, or similar roles supporting enterprise analytics required.
