Hourly Rate: $18.64

Position Summary
The Dispatcher is critical in Temple University's Department of Public Safety and Temple University Police Department.
The Dispatcher is responsible for receiving, screening, and processing calls from the public and police personnel, determining the priority level of requests for services, collecting and disseminating pertinent information from callers and dispatching the appropriate resources to the incident, selecting proper situation codes and enters pertinent information into a computer, accessing and maintaining the security of highly sensitive materials is significant to the work.

The Dispatcher must possess and maintain certifications as a Call Taker and an Emergency Dispatcher as issued by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) during the tenure of employment.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Must have a valid Driver's License.
Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check.

Required Education and Experience
*Must be 18+ years of age.
*High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education and Experience
*Possess a valid vehicle operator license, with an excellent driving record.
*Ability to type 35 wpm.

Required Skills and Abilities
*Learn to maintain composure and control while obtaining information from individuals in an emergency or other high-stress situation, including those who are distraught, angry, frightened, abusive, hysterical, or difficult to understand.
*Learn to assess and prioritize emergency situations.
*Memorize codes, names, locations, and other detailed information.
*Observe numerous computer display screens for a long period of time.
*Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work, including customers, co-workers, University facility and staff, and the general public.
*Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills.
*Must possess excellent written and organizational skills.
*Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation.
*Ability to prioritize tasks.
