Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Recovery Counselor/Therapist to join our growing team. This role is responsible for providing therapeutic support to individuals in recovery, maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support client progress. The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, and client-focused, with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced treatment environment.

Job Summary

The Recovery Counselor Therapist provides recovery-oriented, trauma-informed services to individuals with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. This role supports individuals in developing and achieving personalized recovery goals through assessment, counseling, education, advocacy, and community integration. The Recovery Counselor Therapist collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, families, and community resources to promote wellness, independence, and sustained recovery while maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with program standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage individuals at various stages of recovery and provide stage-appropriate education and support
  • Assist with orientation and onboarding for individuals new to mental health and co-occurring disorder services
  • Assess strengths, abilities, and needs to support development of comprehensive recovery plans
  • Support individuals in identifying personal goals using motivational interviewing and recovery-oriented practices
  • Provide individual and group counseling, coaching, and skill-building for independent living and wellness
  • Deliver education on evidence-based practices, including illness management, co-occurring disorders, and relapse prevention
  • Utilize trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches in all interactions
  • Support development and use of Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) and coping strategies
  • Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy, including in-home services when needed
  • Promote community integration by connecting individuals to peer supports, self-help groups, and community resources
  • Assist individuals with housing stability, vocational services, benefits, transportation, and reasonable accommodations
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals to reduce barriers related to housing, healthcare, employment, and stigma
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, Certified Peer Specialists, families, and support systems
  • Maintain ongoing follow-up, crisis response, re-engagement, and alumni support
  • Complete required documentation, training, supervision, quality improvement activities, and comply with all policies and procedures

Requirements

Recovery Counselor Therapist Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health and/or co-occurring substance use disorders preferred
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with strong reading and writing skills is preferred.
  • License Preferred (BSL, LSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT) preferred not required.
  • CPRP certification preferred, required after 2-years of employment.
  • Culturally informed sensitivity towards Program's target populations
  • Willingness to work flexible work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holiday hours
