DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position is a specialized role within the William Penn State Forest District, encompassing a diverse range of responsibilities related to forestry management. The individual in this role will oversee various programs, including timber sales, fire prevention initiatives, insect and disease management, the development of forest tree nurseries, and the execution of recreational projects, along with any additional tasks as assigned. Key responsibilities include conducting surveys to accurately assess and document the characteristics of forest resources, compiling and reporting field data, and applying standard forest management practices. The employee will receive assignments from a forestry professional, who will provide general guidance. It is essential for the employee to interpret maps, drawings, and plans effectively to carry out their duties. Upon completion of tasks, the work will be reviewed to ensure it meets quality standards and complies with agency regulations. The overarching objective of this role is to support forestry professionals across the district, improve the health and sustainability of forest resources on State Forest Land, and promote the development of recreational projects. - This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may require travel and overtime as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- An associate's degree in forest technology; or
- Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 6 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
