Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: coordination of library services and/or teaching assigned classes, if assigned, under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

The library faculty member shall also demonstrate a strong commitment to equity-minded practices. This includes acknowledging that students enter the college with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and levels of preparation; providing inclusive and culturally responsive instruction and services; and supporting students in developing the skills necessary to thrive both academically and personally. The successful candidate will contribute to creating an environment in which all students feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to achieve their educational goals.

The department maintains a focus on:

  • Information literacy instruction in a variety of modalities and formats that is accessible, inclusive, and responsive to student needs.
  • Providing research help to support student's varying levels of research experience.
  • Providing access to materials and content that reflect diverse perspectives and support student success and equity.
  • Outreach and marketing of library services and collections to increase student engagement and reduce barriers to access.
  • Assessing library programs and services to ensure they effectively support students and contribute to equitable student outcomes.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). Typical Duties

The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching the following courses:

  • LIBR 318 Library Research and Information Literacy
  • LIBR 324 Critical Thinking and Information Literacy
  • LIBR 494 Topics in Library Science

In collaboration with the other librarians, the Librarian may be responsible for, but not limited to:
  • Providing reference and information services to students and staff in a variety of modalities (in-person, chat, Zoom).
  • Providing library instruction in a variety of settings and formats.
  • Maintaining up-to-date instructional materials for print and online library resources.
  • Selecting materials in subject areas for print, media, and digital collections.

The Librarian may also be involved or take the lead in coordinating one or more of the following:
  • Instructional programs and services
  • Circulation policy and procedures
  • Collection management including acquisitions, maintenance, and weeding
  • Management of the physical library space
  • Marketing and outreach of library services.
  • Supporting textbook access through course reserves and open educational resources
  • User experience of library resources including maintaining website, discovery interface, and other library tools
  • Research help coordination and scheduling
  • Assessment of library programs and services
  • Supporting special programs, outreach centers and distance education students
  • Representing the library in districtwide committees and workgroups
Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's in library science, library and information science; OR the equivalent. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 20th, 2026.
  2. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  • Degree titles must match the stated qualifications exactly (word-for-word).
  • If the degree title differs, or if it contains added, missing, or rearranged words, applicants must submit a completed Equivalency Determination Request Form for the application to be considered. See the Equivalency Determination Process webpage for details.
    • Example: If a master's in Psychology is required but the transcript lists Counseling Psychology and that title is not listed in the Minimum Qualifications, an Equivalency Determination Request Form must be submitted.
  • Previously granted equivalencies must be attached for verification. Email hr-recruitment@losrios.edu for a replacement copy.

Transcript Requirements:
  • Transcripts must be from an accredited U.S. institutions or approved foreign evaluation agency.
  • Foreign transcript evaluations must be issued by anAICE (Association of International Credential Evaluation, Inc.) or NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) member agency. See the Foreign Transcript Evaluation webpage for details.
  • Transcripts must clearly identify the degree(s) being used to meet the Minimum Qualifications.
  • If more than one degree is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications (e.g., a bachelor's and a master's), transcripts for each degree must be included.
  • Transcripts must show the degree title and indicate whether each degree is completed or in progress.
  • If the degree is in progress, the application must state, the month and year the degree is expected to be attained.

Additional Instructions:
  • Only information listed on the application and transcripts will be used to verify Minimum Qualifications.
  • Applications stating "see resume" will be disqualified.
  • Applications missing any required documentation will be disqualified.
