Essential Job Functions:

Leadership and Operational Support

* Collaborates closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and serve as acting supervisor in their absence.

* Provides leadership to maintenance staff, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and operational standards.

* Fosters a team environment through mentorship, training, and communication.

Course Maintenance and Operations

* Assists in and oversee daily golf course setup and maintenance, ensuring optimal playability and visual quality.

* Monitors turf conditions and help implement agronomic practices to maintain healthy, high-performing playing surfaces.

* Supports the Irrigation Technician with system operation, maintenance, and training; monitor and manage moisture levels, diagnosing and resolving issues as needed.

* Assists with fertilizer and pesticide inventory, calibration, and application in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Maintain accurate records of all chemical and water applications.

* Participates in tree and landscape maintenance, providing input on health assessments, removals, and new plantings.

Administrative Responsibilities

* Conducts safety briefings and ensures adherence to all safety protocols and regulations (federal, state, and municipal).

* Assists with procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies related to turf, irrigation, and maintenance operations.

* Manages and order supplies for golf course and clubhouse needs, including course equipment (e.g., flags, flagsticks, cups, rakes), facility maintenance items (e.g., paint, cleaning products), and restroom essentials.

* Oversees chemical and fertilizer storage, organization, and safety compliance.

* Contributes to maintaining the facility's Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification, including documentation and recertification efforts.

Facility Maintenance

* Ensures maintenance areas, including the pumphouse and chemical room, are clean, organized, and safe.

* Assists in the maintenance of tennis courts, clubhouse areas, and related infrastructure.

* Manages irrigation systems and general upkeep for tennis facilities.

* Procures and manages cleaning supplies for all golf and tennis operations.

Winter and Off-Season Responsibilities

* Supervises snow removal operations in Nordic Center and clubhouse parking areas.

* Collaborates with Nordic trail grooming teams to support winter recreational operations.

* Assists the Golf Course Mechanic with fleet maintenance, inspections, and records management.

* Participates in capital improvement planning, including sourcing materials, reviewing contracts, and managing staff assignments.

* Contributes to clubhouse maintenance and off-season improvement projects.

* Pursues continuing education opportunities to maintain relevant certifications and professional development.

Budget Responsibilities

* Assists with Capital Maintenance and Project planning.

* Contributes to fleet management and maintenance budget planning.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Certification:

* Turf Management Certification

* Associate's degree in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science preferred.

Experience:

* Minimum of 3 years of combined experience as a Turf Manager, Landscaper, or Irrigation Technician.

* Strong knowledge of irrigation systems and watering practices, including experience with pumps, wells, electrical systems, automatic controls, and drainage.

* Basic mechanical understanding of golf course equipment, including sharpening and mounting blades and reels.

Technical Knowledge:

* Must be proficient in the following areas: Microsoft Outlook Email, Excel, and a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web based platforms.

NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge, and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements, licenses, or certifications listed above.

Preferred Candidate:

* Previous experience/internship in a mountain resort golf course

* Qualified Supervisor Colorado Pesticide Applicator license/turf and ornamental

* Class A or B Golf Course Superintendent certification

* Associate's degree in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science preferred

NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.

Position Type and Work Hours:

* Full-time, term-limited position funded through the 2026 budget cycle.

* Work Hours: Regular full-time hours may vary depending on workload and the golf season. During peak season, additional hours may be required. Availability for emergency calls related to equipment or system breakdowns essential to golf facility operations may also be needed.

* On-Call: Required to be on-call, with 24-hour alarm response availability on a rotating schedule. Responsibilities include debris removal from ditches and managing shop operations, among other tasks.

Work Environment:

* Indoors: Office environment at facility

* Outdoors/Off-Site: Outdoor recreational golf facilities. Position will be exposed to outdoor working conditions in all types of weather. Will attend meetings, trainings, and conferences at a variety of city facilities and areas.
