DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Mining Operations Intern, you will learn the skills necessary in order to play a vital role in protecting property and managing mining risks across Pennsylvania. You will become proficient in navigating Geographic Information System (GIS) software by assisting with critical mapping projects, in addition to leveraging the office's digital mine map repository to create detailed maps essential for the state's Mine Subsidence Insurance Program. You will also conduct in-depth research into historical underground coal mining data to provide key support in resolving complex mining-related subsidence issues. Excellent attention to detail is essential, as you will be assisting the team by accurately entering and maintaining crucial mining-related information within various departmental databases, ensuring data integrity for regulatory and insurance purposes. - Full-time internship which will occur from 5/1/2026 through 8/28/2026.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor's degree or advanced degree program in one of the following majors:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Geography
- Environmental Resources
- An approved major course of study at an accredited college or university.
- Freshman year completed by May 2026.
- Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).
- Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
