DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship provides valuable support to the Agriculture Veterinary Lab by engaging in the analysis of antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) data related to Salmonella and pathogens associated with bovine respiratory diseases. Responsibilities include managing the laboratory inventory to ensure that all necessary supplies are readily available, as well as conducting high-throughput testing and robotics operations. The intern will also be involved in sample pooling and the integration of instruments with the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to streamline data management processes. In addition to these primary tasks, the intern will be expected to complete various other laboratory duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the lab's operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/26 through 8/28/26.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework), part-time on a schedule that aligns with their supervisor so they are in the office on the same days. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Enrollment in good academic standing as a FULL-TIME student in a bachelor's or advanced degree program in:
    • Pre-Veterinary Medicine
    • Biology
  • An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological, and environmental sciences may be acceptable.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Freshman year completed
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment of a Pennsylvania college or university

Additional Requirements:

  • The candidate selected for this position will be required to be vaccinated against rabies prior to the start of employment and maintain a current rabies vaccination throughout the duration of employment.
  • You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
