Posting Summary
The Materials Science & Engineering ( MSE) Department will consider individuals with demonstrated expertise in synthesis, processing and manufacturing of functional materials, optical materials, and energy materials, and computational materials science. Priority will be given to candidates with research activities investigating powder synthesis, thin films, sustainable materials, additive manufacturing, materials for extreme environments, photonics, and materials characterization.
Successful candidates will join a dedicated group of faculty members advancing the frontiers of science and technology, supported by advanced experimental capabilities. The successful applicant will be required to teach, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, develop an independent, externally funded research program, participate in all aspects of the Department's activities, and serve the profession.
MSE has a long history at Rutgers, with strong ties to industry, and a reputation for innovation and entrepreneurship. Currently there are 13 full-time faculty offering an ABET accredited Bachelor's degree. The Graduate Faculty includes an additional 10 members in other engineering fields and science departments in New Brunswick and Camden. The undergraduate student enrollment is approximately 100 (sophomore, junior, and seniors), and the graduate enrollment is about 60 graduate students (including 4+1 MS, MS, PhD). Several MOU's have been signed recently with outstanding international universities for the 4+1 MS program. Minimum Education and Experience
We seek outstanding candidates whose research and teaching interests lie broadly in experimental and computational materials science and engineering, with applications in advanced manufacturing, energy, infrastructure systems, and security and resilience. In addition, the candidate is expected to contribute to curriculum development in these areas, engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research across Rutgers and with external partners.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering, or a closely related discipline, completed by the time of appointment. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated excellence in research, potential for or record of external funding, and a strong commitment to teaching and student success.
