DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for administering state-mandated financial assistance programs for Pennsylvania veterans and their beneficiaries. Your work will involve assisting veterans with filling out required forms, obtaining record information, and explaining the eligibility requirements for various state programs managed by the Office of Veterans Affairs. You will administer benefit programs, process program applications, request additional information when needed, and issue correspondence regarding the approval or disapproval of applications. Some of your duties will also include answering inquiries, supporting supervisors with reconsideration requests, and providing assistance with veterans' programs administered by other Commonwealth agencies. Additionally, you will provide customer service to veterans and their beneficiaries on a wide variety of federal, state, county, and non-profit benefits and services.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, 5 out of 10 days in a pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Jonestown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs; or
  • A bachelor's degree in human services, business administration, public administration, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial class C driver's license or equivalent.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Familiarity with the application of law and regulations to determine eligibility and need for public assistance programs
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Experience with veterans benefits and services
  • Experience with identifying and promoting veteran benefits and services to the public, community partners, and federal, state, and local providers through formal or informal meetings, events, consultations, and speaking engagements
  • Willingness to travel which may require overnight stays
