DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Lifeguard at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, your responsibilities will involve patrolling designated swimming areas to observe and monitor visitor activity at Fuller Lake Beach. You must recognize when swimmers are in distress or need assistance and take immediate action to initiate proper lifesaving methods and techniques. In addition, you will be expected to utilize first aid, artificial respiration, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for visitors of all ages. Inspection of buoys, ropes, first aid equipment and supplies, and other safety equipment will be another essential function in order to ensure all items are in proper operating condition.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal full-time employment running from 5/25/2026 through 9/7/2026.
  • Work hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work schedule will vary not to exceed 37.5 hours per week and will include weekends and holidays.
  • Full-time and part-time schedules available.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • All employees must obtain a valid Lifeguard Certification issued by the American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association, or other authority recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health within 14 days of employment.
  • All employees must obtain valid certifications in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR within 14 days of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
