Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for an Executive Director of Pro Bono. This position can be based out of our New York or Silicon Valley offices.

Together with Pro Bono Counsel and the Head of International Pro Bono, the Executive Director of Pro Bono is a strategic position responsible for implementing and overseeing Orrick's pro bono strategy, programs, and partnerships. This individual will work closely with Pro Bono Counsel and the Head of International Pro Bono to lead efforts to drive the firm's pro bono initiatives, and ensure they are impactful, aligned with the firm's values, and meaningfully engage attorneys and staff across all offices and practice areas. The Executive Director helps to navigate the conflicts/controversial case process for appropriate cases, including the process of securing necessary approvals. The Executive Director will also work closely with Pro Bono Counsel and the Head of International Pro Bono to implement Pro Bono programming and initiatives across all offices.


Responsibilities

Strategic Program Leadership and Strategy

  • Work in partnership with Pro Bono Counsel and the Head of International Pro Bono to manage and administer the pro bono program, including resource allocation and attorney participation
  • Review current state of engagement, including a comprehensive audit of pro bono data, hours, matter types, engagement by practice/office, key partnerships and outcomes.
  • Assess participation trends and examine policies related to pro bono program.
  • Work with Pro Bono Counsel and the Head of International Pro Bono on any potential refining of the pro bono strategy that aligns with the firm's mission and culture.
  • Partner with Pro Bono Counsel, the Head of International Pro Bono and the Pro Bono Committee to set annual goals, evaluate outcomes, and report on program impact.

Engagement and Participation

  • Collaborate across stakeholder groups to build consensus and bridge diverse perspectives and priorities to successfully incentivize participation, align priorities, and execute high impact programming.
  • Identify procedures that result in active partner engagement on pro bono and drive participation across all levels and offices.
  • Coordinate recognition programs and ensure pro bono contributions are acknowledged within the firm's performance and advancement processes.

Partnerships

  • Help foster collaborations with clients, corporate counsel, and external partners on joint pro bono initiatives.

Program Administration and Compliance

  • Assist in managing/improving processes for case intake, matter management, and data tracking to ensure compliance with firm and client standards.
  • Leverage key metrics, analytics, and dashboards to inform content and engagement strategy, and use a data driven approach to assess performance, engagement and outcomes.
  • Prepare annual reports, internal updates, and external communications highlighting the firm's pro bono impact.
  • Collaborate with Business Development to enhance the visibility of the firm's pro bono efforts.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) degree plus a minimum of 10 years of practice experience in legal, education, or professional services management.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between $275,000 - $350,000

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
